What about O/S - 'cos I f*cking hate Vista . . . I'm guessing XP is a bit too Oldskool, now ?

Windows 7.

But if you do you'll definately need more than 2GB RAM.

I personally would get one of these

(they were both on offer @ £105 last night )

as I honestly think you'll see a big performance increase over the cheaper card & i'm not just saying that cos its more expensive, is has over 8x the processing cores of the cheaper one which means a lot more bandwidth on the card for higher GFX options & its generally faster overall.

Also if you are going to buy more RAM make sure its the same type as comes with the bundle... it will be a lot happier that way.

Yeah - guessed that - I've heard of RAM "conflicts" before.

So.  Revised :

Bare in mind it only comes with 2GB RAM. I just bought another 2GB for a smidgen under £40.

Hmm - good point. Worth adding for £40

Yeah odd that.  I found mine on Amazon

Same part number but will find out when it turns up

CPU. Mobo and RAM combo looks good - one thing to check is what teh memory is - 1X2 or 2X1 as will depend on what you get and how many sticks the mobo can handle in terms of what you need to do to upg...

Gfx card is very good, although do you need one that high spec (HD!) etc...might be cheaper alternative that isn't hd ....just a thought....

Roadkill

Come on, then . . . give me a shopping list . . . I obviously can't tackle such matters on my own.

Incursus

RAM is 1  x 2GB  4 slots on the motherboard.

Thought it best to stick to same type stuff - or is that close enough . . . . ?

As I'm only a PSU and a case away from a complete new build I'm currently looking at cases on eBay.

They seem silly cheap - albeit they have no PSU's - but even so . . . . . . . I'll post a couple up and see what people think.

Roadkill

Cases:

This one only apprears to have one fan - no PSU

This one has a 500W PSU but no fans by the looks

No PSU, no fans :

This one is PIMPIN ! - No mention about cooling, though.

Its a different make but from what i can see they are both DDR3 1333Mhz CAS9 which is what matters.

RE the cases - its down to personal choice really - look for something that either has good cooling or has the fixings for good fans, PSU is indifferent - if it don't come with one buy one it really doesn't matter too much case wise - PSU - just get something with at least 500w to be safe

Should be fine.  I just went for exactly the same as I have had problems before.  Though I think Motherboards are a little more tolerant these day

RE: Case.  Why bother tbh....isn't your case hidden away anyway?
and if your PSU is 400W or more then I really wouldn't worry.
I had to get a PSU as mine was suspect.

Well . . . . .

It's going to cost around £300 for a rebuild or about £345 for a complete NEW build . . . as my old stuff in my existing case is (financially) worthless  - it makes sense to me spending an extra £40-odd on a new case and new PSU to then keep my old one as a useable spare.

Also - on a sidenote - I don't think I've EVER had a totally new machine, either.

Incursus

Fair enough I didn't spend as much and £45 is a lot of money to me

Plus your old stuff is "sell-able" - mine certainly isn't.

From the list of 5 above number "4" is definately my favourite

Gonna fire a question off re fans I think . . .

Incursus

I just have the 80mm fan on the back of the case.  I don't think multi core processor get quite as hot as the non.  Saying that my case fan isn't even connected and the CPU (fan runs fairly low)  will keep an eye on it for the LAN though as I've not stressed the system with games yet.

Edit:  number 4 is cool

Wonder if they will combine shipping...

So you think it's not worth worrying about ?

Worse case senario I suppose I can pop down to PissyWorld and grab a fan from there ??

I'm assuming, also, that that case it compatible with the MoBo in that bundle ?

Roadkill

O.K.

So I've found MoBo, GFX card, RAM, Hard Drive and a case.

Does someone want to find me a suitable PSU . . . . what else do I need - DVD-type drive ?

Wireless card for interweb ?

Case is ATX so will be fine.

As for the fan.  you will be running a more powerful GFX card so may get hotter and as I say i've not stressed mine.

At worst you can take the side off the case if it gets hot.
Don't you have fans on your current case?
