as it been a bit nippley

if you've not checked you anti freeze,
now is a good time.
you can use a specific gravity tester but these can give odd results if antifreeze has been mixed.

An easy real world test is to siphon off a small amount of your coolant from the header tank and pop it in a sealed clearly marked container in your freezer, or deep freeze.
if it's still a liquid when you take it out a few days later you'll be fine, but if it's Ice or Slush get the coolant changed PDQ.

even minor freeze ups that don't crack heads, blocks or push out core plugs can still lock the cambelt driven water pump solid with obvious disastrous results..
