Exactly the same here (Norfolk), the ice was welded to the windows

We are actually just looking at installing a Wood-burning Stove with a back burner to heat our radiators etc as oil prices have just gone up again and it is so expensive to heat the house (no mains supply here).

Something like this would be good.

there are various building regs involved these days, and it can be quite expensive....  chimney liners, building control costs,

Indeed even the de-icer didn't make a dent.  1st time i've bought de-icer in about 5 years

Yes we are just researching it now, although we have no chimney at all, so will just be a flume all the way up and out I presume..

you can get a rear exiting flue....our has one,[not used by us though,]
then the steel flue can be ran up the outside,.....i presume

my bro fitted a woodburner in his newbuild/barn conversion,
and had to have a firedamper in the s/s flue as it passes thru the roof, that was around 1k on its own...

i havent used de-icer in 25 years,it generally sucks,

a milk bottle of luke warm tap water does the job,
and wont freeze 5 mins later as it warms the glass,

and b4 ya all start .....ive never broken a windscreen......

Yeah I found it to be expensive and doesn't really work where you still have to make sure the wipers are free and keep them going or the screen ices back up.

I use cardboard on the windscreen so I just have to scrape the two front side windows and wing-mirrors. I wouldn't have to use the cardboard at all but my heated windscreen only works on one side

Fantastic ain't they!

Hate to say it but I saw -10.5 at 4:15am as I was leaving Birmingham airport after work.
Even worse got to just before junction 7a on the M42 and found 1 of my workmates broken down on the way to East Midlands, the van was freezing and had cut out, from what he said sounded like no anti freeze. So I got him to wait in my car till somebody came.

Amey

Took Lucy out for a walk this afternoon - Wasn't too bad in the sun, but in the shade was very cold.

Yeah I had forgotten it wasn't that great and really doesn't save much time.

Roadkill

I find the de-icer in aerosols utter shite but the liquid stuff in spray bottles much better.

It lasts longer plus you get a better spread on the screen instead of a weak trail the aerosols leave . . . Plus, due to no propelant, the container doesn't get UBER cold and make your hands freeze !

Incursus

Yeah I bought the spray one.  Maybe it will work better when the weather warms up a bit.

No problem this morning the -15 screen wash I bought in France was enough to clear the ice off

It was above freezing (just) when I left at 7.40 this morning - didn't even bother with de-icer - just a quick wipe with the scraper.

It's supposed to be milder for the next few days . . . . apparently.

F Body

Yep it was +1.5c outside at 15:30pm and a tropical +4.5c is forecast for Saturday

You guys are getting hit pretty hard by the sounds of it.
