If it's all serviced etc then it all comes down to how you drive. I managed to coax 34mpg out of the IROC *once* but that involved clever forward planning in terms of overtaking slower traffic on the motorway etc and careful use of the throttle downhill to gain speed to go uphill plus letting it naturally slow down a little uphill if necessary. It's amazing what difference your driving can make though.

absolutely, I got 32 out of the camaro a couple of times, and 28 was easy to achieve on motorway runs.

The mustang never really got quite as good, about 27 was the best, and with the bent crank, 6mpg, while not managing to get the car over 60 mph on an A road run....

fuel consumption is as much driving style, aerodynamics and weight as it is engine size.

Meh, spend the tenner and have fun!

In your toy

In your daily

Indeed tis my daily and £20 a month is £20 .

To be honest she's still more fun to drive than your average car even when changing at around 2k.

Though poking the loud pedal occasionally on a sunny afternoon wont break the bank

Info dump for Key Programming :

From Piston Heads :

Remote Transmitter Programming (410040)

1. Note:
A maximum of four keyless entry remote transmitters can be programmed to the generic electronic module (GEM). Programming must be done at the same time for all the transmitters.

Note:
To enter programming mode, first make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered (if equipped).

Close all doors and fasten the safety belts to make sure conflicting chimes do not sound during programming.

2. Turn the ignition switch from position I to position II at least four times in six seconds.

3. Turn the ignition switch to position I.

4. The GEM is now in the learning mode.

5. Press and hold one of the buttons on the remote transmitter until a chime sounds. This indicates a new transmitter code has been successfully received.

6. After each successful programming, another 10 second learning mode is automatically entered, up to a maximum of four times.

7. To program additional transmitters, repeat step 5.

8. The system will leave the learning mode after the ignition switch is turned to position III, or if no new transmitter is programmed during the 10 seconds, or if four remote transmitters have been programmed.

9. Note:
An incorrect programming procedure does not affect the stored codes.

After successful programming, only the new programmed transmitters will be accepted.

10. Test all the programmed transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking/unlocking functions.

From an eBay seller :

Remote Central Locking Programming Instructions:

Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (off)
and back four times within three seconds. Remove the ignition key.
The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds the
red warning system LED stays on continuously to indicate this.
During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons. The remotes signal and
code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the
warning system LED.
Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.

Program a new key (Note you require at least 2 keys to program another)

Insert the first programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Insert the second programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Key programming mode is now activated and you have ten seconds to:
Insert the unprogrammed new key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Allow 10 seconds to pass for the system to exit programming

51.2 MPG !!!

Jeeze you Ford Boyz must be rich, don't think I could live with a daily driver  drinking that much fuel

Had a couple of 78mpg's over the last few weeks, but I went 52 miles over to Kettering this morning and managed this :

Noted.

UPDATE.
Not done anything to the Mondy at all.

She's still going strong, clocking up nearly a thousand miles in the last week and a bit.

I have put some RedX injector cleaner through with the last couple of tanks and at the last refil got a whopping 52.3MPG - my best yet.

As I start to do longer and longer journies I hope to increase that further.

Nothing to note, got a couple of light scratches recently and the inside looks like $hit at the moment as been used to haul some SERIOUS weight recently (350kg of paving slabs x 2 and 250+kg of cement as well as multiple tip runs during the CRK building works).

Has an occasional starting issue but since running the injector cleaner that's almost ceased.

Mileage is currently 179,422 miles.

Andy

She's good for another 100k more I'm sure! The only thing that'll start showing it's age are the bushes.

Btw, Mike (who came to the Foos with me) has a 55reg 130 hatchback mondy. He just had his handbrake cable snap but while it was in asked how much he was looking at for a new cambelt. He didn't realise those things run chains for the timing. He was most pleased!

SEVICED !!!

New Air filter,
New Oil filter (and oil)
Fixed some blown bulbs,
New front wipers.

On removing the oil filter bowl I discovered that the monkey's that did the last service (in Poland !!) over-tightened it so it cracked on removal.

PITA, but no biggie - genuine Ford replacement was £20 . . . and it gave me the excuse to buy the Halfords-Pro MEGA socket set (the 3/4" drive one).

I now have sockets up to 50mm.

So what you mean is you are capable of handling really big nuts...

Just been flicking through my work-related mileages . . . . The old gal has paid for herself one-and-a-half-times over already.

Not bad in less than 6 months.

I won't worry about the mileage then

I suspect that you get more than the 28p per mile I get for using my own car
