I think someone is confident that it will pass another MOT...

I have little doubt it would pass . . . The gearbox issue isn't a MoT failure, but would still mark the end of the line.

or selling ...

I ALWAYS keep that option open . . . As when the DMF went, I put it up on eBay straight away before eventually deciding to keep her going.

Art, never seen a side wall go like that before . . . you're lucky not to have f*cked up the rim . . .

I decided to get the old girl (the Mondeo, I mean) a personal gift for Christmas . . . So I made sure I passed 260,000 miles on Christmas eve.

She had her (overdue) MoT this morning and passed, with one minor advisory (rear number plate).

She's now taxed for another six months - as that was due, too - so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed a bit longer . . . . !

So do I, but I don't think the gearbox will hold out that long !!!

Roadkill

Mini update . . . She passed the 265,000 mile mark last week and is still as noisy as hell.

If she broke down and died tonight I wouldn't be surprised !

I got another puncture and while putting the spare on stripped one of the wheel nuts (which are fooked, BTW, totally worn-out, probably due to the excessive amount of times the wheels have come off for new brakes/pad/tyres etc . . ) so a new set of wheel nuts are on order before getting the tyre repaired/replaced (it's near the mark).

Roadkill

Not often your wheel nuts wear out, but after so many miles it can be forgiven, I suppose . . . !

That spring-shaped bit is actually the threaded part of the nut I pealed off the stud !!!

For comparison (a bit of a difference)

Now all 4 wheels have had shiny new nuts fitted . . . I resisted doing it for ages but it really was time.

Well, with tax due at the end of the month, the noise from the front end now almost deafening and a rattling from the back (as well as being only a few miles shy of 270,000) I was ready to sell the old girl but thought I'd give her one more chance.

I had a look over the weekend and discovered that the "noise" had been misdiagnosed before and the fix could be a lot easier (and cheaper) than anticipated.

So I took her to the garage this morning.

The "noise" turns out to be a failed wheel bearing (so really cheap and easy to fix) . . . that said the way it'd failed was "weird, so probably never sounded or felt like a wheel bearing going" (his words, not mine).

Next up was the rattling from the back.

Turns out that both my rear shocks are beyond dead (not surprising considering what I regular put the car through AND the fact that they told me they were knackered about 3 years ago !!!

Although, I said, that wasn't the noise I'd heard from the back . . .

2 minutes of looking and both the main rear-arm bushes have failed (as in collapsed !!).  Got money's worth, for sure.

I've also got a rear flexi brake line that's at the point of failure so have left the car with them.

I had a budget of £500 in mind as, basically, if I had to pick up a cheap snotter to get me by that'd be the minimum I'd end up spending . . . . That said, I've told them no more than £400 so should be good . . . . Plus this way there's a chance that the engine will get to 300,000 miles.

P.S. Got notification today that my company car should be available for handover 27th Aug, if you're still interested in mine.

Should have said that before I spent £364 fixing mine - I'm gunning for 300K, now !

Picked up last night and WOW.  Totally different.

Obviously the noise which I thought (and was told) was the gearbox (and so terminal) is now gone . . . Without realising it I crept up to 90+mph on the bypass this morning and even then the car was whisper quiet, smooth and comfortable.

The rear shocks have helped a lot.  It definitely feels better now then it did even when I first bought it over 4 years ago.

It handles better, brakes better - everything reacts better and smoother.  I'm very happy (especially as my expenses for this month alone covered the repairs)

The garage even topped up my washer fluid.

I'm happy, the Mondy literally feels as good as new . . . The various issues have caused two tyres to become worn un-even so they'll be next on the list (although not urgent).

She's due a service in July so that's next . . . . Once I've finished doing some work in the garden I'll even then get her cleaned !!!!

Fair enough. Though I only found out yesterday. 😉

I'd disappoint C.P if I didn't get her to 300K, now.  :P

I had ulterior motives . . . I'd ran out of my creosote/engine oil mix the night before and needed some to continue on a garden-related project.

If I hadn't have run out of that, I'd have pushed it another month or two.  :P
