Quote from: Roadkill on March 24, 2015, 05:23:40 AMNot that my machine is ready for it but it really does p!ss me off them keep delaying it . . . I can't believe it's not ready - they're just doing it now for effect.

IMO this delay is more than likely to put the sales revenue figures into the 2015/16 financial year... they've obviously had a good enough year through 2014/15

bummer it delayed (yet) again, but least it gives me a change to sort me PC out before lol!

FUBAR

It Pushes the release to after the Gadget Show

Any ideas on what I'd need to upgrade in order to get it to work (without lag) on my P.C ?

After that chat round yours, Ryan, I'm tempted to pack Sammy and Jensen away to her Dad's and have a weekend GTAV'ing it up !!!  :beavisnbutthead:

I can't look at gaming sites at work because they're blocked, but if you google "gta 5 pc specs" you'll see pages that tell you the official reccomendations.  you want to aim for the recommended specs (or close too)

Ok here's the specs from R* website:

Recommended specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

To get that on Overclockers you'd be looking at something like £700 (£820 if you need to buy windows 7):

This as a Base, from their motherboard bundles section, provides the CPU needed, double the RAM (because windows needs some too) and a decent cooler, these are additional options:

Then this is the best bang for your buck on a GFX card at the moment IMO, this is slightly better than my current one (but I have 2 :)) and is the same price as ones down the register a bit, but with twice the memory:

(To go from a GTX 770 to a GTX 780 which is not 'that' near the top of the tree these days costs another £120)

To power the above I'd imagine you'd need a Power supply too, something like this is a good option:

Construction Tech Support Free from either me or Ian, (you will also need windows 7 at least, not sure if you're using that already, this is another £117 for 64bit professional)

Edit: I just ran an approximation of a PC setup based on the above through a "Power supply Calculator" & it said 500w power supply minimum, I'd say 600w minimum and 700w recommended for some "Head room"

Looks a good spec and not bad price

You can still buy Windows 7?  :o :o

Why would you when 8.x has been out for years and 10 is out in a few months..  :pass:

I know everyone from Win 7 onwards gets a free upgrade to Win 10 but still..

EDIT: Pretty sure I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Pro kicking around somewhere.. :chiny:

ianjpage

Because win 7 is soooo much better on a non touch screen device

(Oh and dean already has a genuine licensed copy of W7 Pro 64 Bit)

Roadkill

£700 ?

Wow, everything but the case, basically, yeah ?

Meh, personal preference i guess then, i just prefer the layout of W7 vs 8.1,  have tried it on PC and got fed up with it - spose if it was only option you'd get used to it quick enough...but hey ho

Will have to have a think . . . was planning on getting a bigger hard drive on the next upgrade, too.

I was kinda budgeting £500 for the "gaming" part of the upgrade and then the hard drive on top.

I assume my motherboard isn't compatible / usable anymore ?

TBH if you don't need to buy windows 7 a new HDD would be a very sensible idea, I don't know when you last changed your HDDs but having a new one is always good, even just for peace of mind.

As for motherboards, your one is no longer compatible with the processors needed for a new setup

Yeah, thought so.  :can:

Same for me TBH, I just prefer the way it works, I've used 8.1 on the laptop at work and I always find it a bit 'clunky'
Windows 10 is supposed to be 1/2 way between 7 and 8.1 on its looks & functionality so that will be my next step one day.

Yeah it's a bit too close to win 7 for me atm ..hoping they make it better for touch screens, but anywho as I said it will be free for a year for anyone on win 7 upwards..even dodgy copies apparently..

Free for a year?... does that mean it's going subscription based like the new Office is?  Sux A LOT if it is :rtfm:

Hmm, my P.C doesn't seem to be able to cope with the 60fps video of GTA-V that's just been released !!

If anyone has pre-ordered this you can start installing it tomorrow.  I will be, it might have finished downloading my April 14th that way...
