My new purchase...

'98 Jag XJ8 3.2 V8.

Good points :-
Climate Control
RCL
Mirrors, Windows, seats, head rests lol.
Auto Headlights.
Full Service History up until £7k miles ago
77,000 miles on the clock
MOT
Sport mode
Back looks like its never been sat in, front drivers seat is a little cracked as old leather looks, but not ripped.
Full, wood dash

Bad points :-
Centre caps on wheels missing
Boot button doesn't work (button on dash and Remote though)
CD Changer is missing

3.2 V8 = 30mpg on a run (Apparently)....

Plans :-
Service it, do a full check over on it.
Nothing else.

Very nice buddy.

Why not put a cheap but well spec'd head unit in and a facier plate instead? So, AD2P, Bluetooth, CD, USB etc?

Nah, I want to keep it original. I like original..... The Mondeo has an after market unit etc, but the Jag won't.

The 4.0 was tempting, but I want to use it for motorway journeys, if it touches 30, it can be viable enough to justify....

Do they suffer from ellecy issues

I'm shitting myself, haven't veered from American stuff for years

Does the pope shit in the woods?

Wouldn't worry about it too much it's usually little things like the RCL.  Hope the remote isn't an Alps fob, I'll never forget the hassle those things gave us and JLR

Dad's usually fixing something on it, doesn't put him off though, 2nd one he's had.   Think the only big problem was a knackered injector or something like that.

Think he gets mid 20's mpg wise though he likes sport mode and the noisy peddle

Anyway I work as a consultant for Jaguar Land Rover now so I guess I should sing their praises

Fieldy

My uncle is always visiting the JLR plant.... Wonder if that's where you're based?

Thanks for the advice....it's going for a service I think to give it a once over....

I would have no idea what that was without The Big Bang Theory That show is very educational and Penny is just.... well that's another discussion.

Nice cars.  I seriously looked into one (actually a few) before I brought my 4th Gen (back in '03).

I opted for the 4th Gen as I knew the Jag would suffer hard depreciation . . . . but now it's depreciated I'm betting you bagged a bargain !

Love the Jags.

EDGE

they seem to go for about £1500-£3000, which is an UTTER bargain, I've already looked on ebay, there are LOADS for sale!

I thought this thread was now just a jizz fest over Penny, but noooo, you want to talk about 'cars'

If I didn't commute so far to work an XJ would have been top of my list to replace the Mustang as a daily.

Oh well, when I pass my test in April I'll get to drive the new & prototype Jags

Sounds good to me.

When I was looking they were in the £5000 mark !!

I've got my heart set on a 300C when the Mondeo gives up . . . but they don't seem to depreciate much at all !

Couldn't agree more, I want the estate, but as you say, they are around the same price now that they were 3-4 years ago when I first started hoping and dreaming
