Yeah was following a nice 300C estate down the M1 this afternoon and musing.  The MPG wouldn't be as good so would take longer to pay for itself, but on the other hand I would be happy to keep it longer

Doesn't matter if it would take longer to pay it off mpg wise etc, you would not want to sell it as quick I am sure (not driven one though)

The head unit is incidental. The cd player comes with a box of circuitry (for want of a better description). This box sits in between the vehicles aerial and the head unit and allows the CDs to be played on an FM frequency that you choose. The volume and sound quality (base and treble etc) is controlled by the head unit whilst the functions of the cd multi changer are controlled be either the wired remote or the infra red remote.

In short, with the right aerial connections this cd multi changer will work on ANY vehicle with an FM head unit. There are only three wires to connect, a permanent 12 volts, a switched 12 volts and of course a ground. The multi changer is attached to the "box" via an included control cable and a stereo cable also included. The multi changer can be fixed at virtually any angle as it has adjustment on the side to compensate.

Crank pulley isn't too good. Belt kept slipping off so had to be chauffeured home. On the case today

so what tensions the belt for it to stay on ...

The tensioner, but, the crank pulley is so worn and wobbly the belt literally fell off... Not even convinced it's the right pulley for the engine

Here we go eh.... By the time I'm finished with it it will be lovely finished with TLC etc all complete. She was well looked after for a number of years, but it would appear the last two years have been a little nasty.... I like a challenge

Edge:- as for the motorway munching, that is exactly why we bought it. I want to drive to Scotland more and use it for the regular London trips we are doing more often....

Took it for a drive today. No issues but I did touch the wood dash before leaving the drive for luck

Am up in London for the weekend so thought we would use the XJ for the trip. I really wanted to test to see if we had any further issues and also see what MPG I could really get out of it.

I sat at 65-70mph the whole way barthe few 50 zones in place right now and the results were, pretty astonishing.

Needs a new thermostat at some point - That's the small negative. But at £34 + VAT from jag it isn't the end of the world.

On the plus note, these have Alpine stereos so for £3.50 delivered I now have my stereo all ipod'd up
