Thats a big improvement! Ive got a black 99 Dodge Ram here with a gold skirt kit and i hate it, thinking of removing it at the weekend and painting the lower body so its all the same

A white lower half definitely does not work . . . body coloured looks O.K but I think black looks best.  The bull-bars and optional Iron Man is definitely worth a consideration.



I think I'll start by trying to remove the Sport Trim this weekend and go from there . . . I don't think the Silver will look half as bad without the wings or chin !

How long did it take you to do those ?

I ask as I want to compile some concepts of the '58 before starting her (mainly for possible colours but also to get an idea of how some modifictions would look . . . )

Would have looked better if I was not rushing and messed up the layers, I then just hacked at it, which is why there is lots of bumper detail on the top pictures and less as you go down

Once you have made the paths for layers, changing colours is very quick. It's 'penning' the paths out and editing the image (deleting and filling the floor etc)  that takes time.

Ian and I got the rear seats out earlier so I could give her a good hoover out and wipe over . . . . just a quick going over . . . but looks a HELL of a lot  better !

Relocated the rear fog light out of sight as it made the rear-end look even worse.  Ian sorted a dodgy brake light.  

Had a go at removing the side "wings" and think I'll leave them on.  
They come in very handy for getting to the roof bars, also the bolts were rusted solid . . . and there's a bit of rust lurking behind the trim that I'd prefer to remain hidden for now . . . . On top of that there's retaining clips on the wheel arches that'd need drilling out . . . bit of a ball ache, really.

I will definitely be removing the chin spoiler though - that's next . . .

its a very practical day van - it has everything you need for a van, seats, opening holes in the doors (aka windows lol) and an engine and gearbox - very little luxury, but then there's less to go wrong!

Definitely will look better without the chin spoiler though!

She's now had a super-duper clean and is looking better.

The side "wings" still bother me so I'm considering taking them off (again) and sorting the rust out behind them.

I does look a little odd with the side skirts but no chin.

There's some rust to sort out behind the skirts so I was going to leave them on . . . but the framework supporting the skirts has completely rotted away on the drivers side so they're not really safe anyway.

It's weird as the rest of the chassis / underside is totally SOLID.  It's got a proper commercial truck chassis underneath.

The framework for the side skirts, albeit a factory option, is a proper "throw-it-together" design and is flimsy at best.

I'm going to investigate the option of sorting the rust on the lower panels themselves before committing to removing the skirts as I suspect once they're off they won't go back on again.

The side wings and chin have now been completely removed and all supporting brackets and clips ground off / drilled out.

As suspected it's shown up two sizable areas of rust.  While quite large they're a fairly easy fix as I can get the replacement panels rolled and bent at work for free.



Spent a total of 6 hours battling with the sump / Oil pan.  When I bought her the guy said that he'd found an oil leak coming from the pan and supplied me with everything I need to do the job.  I didn't argue as it was a good deal and assumed that it would be fairly straight forward . . .

In fairness, If I'd read up on the task beforehand online I could've got it done in half the time . . . and if I had to to it again I'd do it in a quarter of the time but none of that helped me on Sunday and Monday evening !!

Long story short, not enough clearance to get the pan out, release motor mounts, jack and block engine, unbolt sump and hit with hammer.

Thankfully the replacement pan has been redesigned and went in without a scratch.

No pics of the finished job as by that point I was proper p!ssed of with laying on my back on my gravel driveway.



I've also replaced the oblong number plates with U.K legal but U.S sized number plates . . . I had a theory that it'd improve the front view by making it look more proportioned (I think it does) and on the back the new plates cover the factory holes the old ones do not.

I'm seeing the potential rims tonight and have put some drawings into the shop for some repair panels.

I hope to have the panels so I can start welding and sorting the rust out this weekend . . . .
