Funny you should say that . . . Both lights and power spur off of the mains as we couldn't get to the lighting ring but managed to get to the mains feed for the sockets in the garage.

so your lights are protected by a 32 amp breaker ..

Can't remember what the sockets are . . . don't think they're 32A, though . . they're not that high.

Sounds like the simplest fix would be a fused switch, then ?

The doors have been delayed (again) !

They were supposed to be available last Wednesday . . . then this Wednesday . . . then tomorrow.  now it's next Tuesday (but probably, actually Thursday) !!

This is gonna bugger everything up !

it depends on ya cable size to the lights,
if its the same as the socket cable 2.5mm then its not so bad...

We put the Pig to work last night carrying 11 sheets of 2400x1200x12.5 plasterboard for the shed.

With the doors delayed the plan is to concentrate on getting the insulation installed and plasterboard fitted (where I can) this weekend.

I also intend to remove the window in the garage that looks into the new shed.  The plan is to plasterboard this inside the garage to mount my P.C's monitor to the wall (to clear some desk space).

I've also got some more back garden mods to do, too.

Have you thought about your own series on Discovery or something?

'Building Shit with Roadkill' - Weekdays 18:00 - 18:30

I'd watch it...

It's been a welcome break from working on the Camaro.

I feel like I have full control over building something like that whereas cars frequently throw curve-balls to generally f*ck you up !

I've another cool project coming up soon, that's gonna be fun . . . I need to pick up some materials for it next week (or before) but I'm really looking forward to getting started on it (It's part of a bigger non-auto project hopefully happening next year)

I love building shit !

Pretty good progress made over the weekend.

Unfortunately not too many pictures.

Got the lower noggings fitted and the DPM trimmed back on Saturday morning.

On Saturday afternoon Ian assisted in getting the 25mm polystyrene fitted to the walls and ceiling.

Here's a pic (taken through garage window so apologies for the reflection)

After that we got some of the plasterboard cut and fitted and got to the point we'd need to turn the power off to fit the boards around the sockets so finished off by removing the window between the garage and the shed.

Sunday saw the plasterboard 90% finished on the walls (I can't fit the last bits until the doors are installed) and the ceiling plasterboard all done.

Tonight's job will be putting the rest of the screws in the plasterboard and start thinking about skrimming and filling the joints.

now the windows out you should knock thru from the garage....

I really did consider it but under that window is where my P.C sits and to enter the shed from there I would effectively need to remove my P.C, phone, sockets, speakers and sub (they'd be homeless as on the other end of the bench is the sink).
Also on the wall on the shed side I intend to mount shelves and put in a heavy-duty bench.

Basically the extra benefit of that access is nothing compared to the extra work and loss of wall space.

EDIT - Besides, it's now plasterboarded over.

Roadkill

Spent all night screwing in the shed last night . . . a bit sore this morning.

Got the skrim fitted and the first lot of filler on.

Doors are now available so I need to sort collecting them ASAP as I want them before the weekend.

Nice work sir.

Did you use tape or mesh for the jointing? Looks tidy

Roadkill

Skrim or Scrim they call it.

Yeah, it's a self adhesive mesh.  It won't stay stuck forever so I get the filler on as soon as.

It'll be tidy after the second going-over.  The first is basically just to fill the joints and cover the screw-heads.

Cunning Plan

How do you do the second 'going-over'? Do you just expand the filled area a little and generally make it smoother like applying filler to a car?

I mean, you are not plastering the whole area are you?

Edit: Also, what are you using? Plaster or a filler?

Apologies for the questions, I am sure this was not a 'How to' thread

The point of the thread was partly a 'how to' to show how easy it is to do something like this.

I use a wickes ready mix compound (I'll post a picture later).

I put the first coat over the joints and screw heads to generally fill the holes ...... This tends to shrink back a bit so you'll never finish it in one go any way.  I then give it a quick sand down once it's dry, then one coat of watered down PVA before a second coat, concentrating on getting it as even and smooth as possible.

After that, sand again, PVA again and paint.

looking more like a 'dean' shed now :)

Yeah I remember reading / asking on here a while ago when I tidied up an outhouse, but the result was not brilliant, so I wondered what I did wrong by asking what RK is doing right

Due to the seller being apparently slightly retarded, I'm now losing a chunk of Saturday and picking up the doors tomorrow morning.

I plan to be back in MK for lunchtime so I can put Jensen down for his nap and get them fitted in the afternoon !

I've not bothered do anymore filling in the shed as it's taking nearly 2 days for the filler to dry properly . . . with the doors on I'll put a heater out there on low and accelerate that process.

Plus getting in / out will be easier as at the moment I'm having to climb underneath a piece of double-thick DPM !

ianjpage

What a PITA re the doors, lets hope after all this they are as described and fit proper!!
