Much like Spotify, but you can also add your own music you own to the library.

So right now I have a load of albums I own mixed with ones from Google Play that I want to also listen to.

Also, it has something that Spotify really misses, a random all function, where it will play any album you have without having to mess around with sorting into play-lists.

Incursus

Been using Google Music since it was introduced in the UK, though only to store my own music in the "cloud"

Gives me access to all my music on my phone or tablet without worrying about storage

Can also Bluetooth it to the DAB radio in the kitchen or DLNA to the Telly/hifi...when I'm not listening to Team Rock Radio

Yes, but if you sign up to the free 'All Access' trial, you can listen to any album you can think of (I haven't found a band it has not got yet). You can also 'pin' the album to your device which means you can listen offline.

I've just 'pinned' a few albums to listen to in the car on the way back

Metallica are really up tight about their music. I still don't think they're even on iTunes as they want people to buy their physical albums.

Probably best I don't bother look, then, as I'd be after even more obscure stuff than that !

You  probably wont have as much or a problem as you think. Art has picked out the collective set of artists (boneheads) who have opted out of alowing their music to be available in a digital on demand format because they think it devalues it...

Or, to put it another way, bands and music executives that think we should stay stuck in the 1980s.

Embrace modern technology, adjust your business model to suit it or be overtaken by those who are. However, that's another thread

However, an added benefit to this service is if you cannot find the album you want to download / 'pin it' and you have the album yourself, you can upload the music to the Google server and it will allow you to listen to it on any device, anywhere. I think you do not even need to upload the music, I think you can just put the barcode in, but I am just guessing from a vague memory about reading something, but I may have it mixed up with something else.

Went to trial this, it wanted me to upload my music, after 3 hours and only 2k of my 12.5k songs I gave up.

Cunning Plan

I think you are doing it wrong

You don't have to upload anything. Join the free trial, download the app to your phone, click on the search magnifying glass, search for Justin Bieber or whoever you like and it will show you all the albums. Click on an album and 'pin it' to download it to your phone.

Job done.

FYI, the upload feature is only if you have albums that are not already provided by Google, you can upload them to the 'cloud' and Google will make them available to you on any device, anywhere.
