Had the unexpected bonus of 24hrs in my bosses Audi S4 Avant yesterday, as it is being replaced today by a horrible tax saving Mitsubishi L200 diesel nasty.

That car is an absolute demon.

344bhp and ridiculous amounts of grip, and a V8 wail that sounds so much better than any M3.

The punch you get from 3000rpm + is brutal and so addictive.

I managed a PB of 140mph down the desserted A507 between Shefford and Clifton last night (about 1.5 mile straight single carraigeway between roundabouts).

Unless you are packing a Viper or newish Corvette on a straight road, you just won't stay with one.

I want one as a daily driver when the prices drop to sensible levels!

Yup its a sweet ride, my mate has the S4 with the twin turbos although they have been swapped for the RS4 turbos and lets say 420Hp is enough in that car

Giblets

Is that the old 2.7 V6 twin turbo on the previous model?

I know the new RS4 is the same 4.2 V8 with twin turbo's bolted on for shits and giggles.

That thing must be insane.

Yeah he bought it from his dad when he got his AMG 55 so that will be his next car when his dad changes

Unfortunately, the V8 40v Audi motors are quite poorly machined for what they're doing with them.

Quite crudely made I thought.

Just been reading EVo magazine at home and the new RS4 creamed the BMW M3 and the Mitso Evo xxxzziqqwq fq 340 !
They reakon that with trick exhaust flaps it sounds the biz too ?

Giblets

I honestly believe that the 4.2 litre Audi V8 is one of the great engines.

My 24 hrs is extended to tomorrow now.

Off for a high speed saunter now. Need more fuel though......

Well designed, I agree, from what I know.

But I did some of the machining for some of the Audi V8's and the process was poor, to say the least.

Mind you I'd just finished doing F-1 work at that point so my standards were probably high.

Giblets

Well I'd have to take your word on that of course mate!

But from a performance perspective it's a belter.

i drove an RS6 when they first cam out a while ago (on a track)

yes, it was brutaly fast, but to be honest, half the time you never noticed, because it was so smooth and quiet..

did everything well, but left me totaly cold, it was sterile and unexciting..

HardRockCamaro

Fast Audi estates = much cool factor.

And yes they go like stink

I remember trying to get an RS6 driver to play back when I had my Focus.
He lauched past me like I was going backwards (which I knew he would, I was just curious as to how quick they were!).

I'd whip it's arse in a Caddy STS v-series though!
Just need to wait for the prices to drop!

Another evening of warp speeds, and I struggle to see how anyone could want or need more power in a road car than that.

I guess you get used to it after time, but that kind of shove is just plain addictive (and in the Audi - usable).

I blitzed past 3 cars in a row easily in it without putting anyone in danger, and didn't even need to change down!

I want it (and the Camaro of course).

Power is addictive mate, nothing better than a uber quick car and i have driven a few in the last couple of years.

i miss owning a quick car

Well I took the boss's new X-type Jag out today.

Not particulay impressed, the Audi A4 (bog standard 2.0 with shitronic auto) is far superior quality wise.  Though for power and agility the cat wins hands down...espesially for a 2.2 diesel

Auto boxes on weedy petrol engines are a terrible combo. The standrad Audi 2.0 is a woeful engine.

My A4 thankfully has the venerable punchy 140bhp TDi lump, so there's enough torque to help the Multitronic gubbins move the car along at a decent lick. Still sounds like a Ford Transit though.

X-Type's are basically Mondeo's in drag.

Incursus

Still 1000 times more pleasurable to drive than my Renault 19

But then again what isnt

I like the X-Type.
Being based on the Mondeo mean it has a fab chassis and you can have it as awd (*apart from the diesel).
I was looking at the 2.2 Diesel Sport Premium.
Lovely bit of kit.
