Waterloo make some real good boxes as do beach. If you let me know what your budget is i can keep an eye out on the tool vans when they come around for a PX box

philoldsmobile

for domestic use, you could do a lot worse than helfrauds profesional..

i have got 3 of them, and never had an issue, and all lifetime warranty..

higher spec come with roller draws too..

You reckon ?

TBH, I've never heard of either of them.

I know alot of people rate them, but I've tried out their larger roll-cabs and they just feel a little lightweight.
The smaller, portable ones are fine - but that isn't what I'm after . .

All my cabs are waterloo. they are the largest manufacturer of chest in the USA and used to build for snapon before they went to china

Tested a few makes for work, settled for a Clarks black and gold

That's a very good tool chest . . .  It's what I was looking at originally.

However, if I brought it through the company (ie. vat-free) the lower cabinet and upper drawer cab totals £579.90 !!!

That's just a tad out of my price range . . . . . . . . . . . Although it'd probably do me for life.

I have a Mac tool John Force special edition in Black and gold plate i wouldnt swap it for anything ,better than all the Snap-ons i have had.

Yeah, that's the problem - cost.

My MAC box is great, but it's small and getting on a bit (I inherited it) - I need something better then average but around the £500 pounds mark for a roll-cab and top chest(s) . . . .

55starchief

well why not just get a roll cab and put your top box on it?

i'd go for mac over snap on, to be fair, i dont really rate some of snap on's stuff at all (although my snap on ratchet screwdriver is sooooooo sexy its unreal!)

i have some snap on sockets, and some signet sockets. both cary lifetime warranty, signet cost about 1/3 the cost of snap on... despite the snap on getting less use, i have split one, and the chrome lifted off another very badly. all the (much heavier used) signets are still perfect.

also never broken a hellfrauds profesional tool either, and they also cary the lifetime warranty.

the quality of the more budget tools has improved immesurably, and for domestic use, you have to be realistic... you do get better stuff spending more, but its not that much better.....

Thats cause they are signet mate

philoldsmobile

yeah, i had suspected that, as i have signet ratchet spanners, and are identicle to one of our guys halfords ratchet spanners..

very very very good value for money. i prefer my signet ratchet spanners to the blue point ones i have - the blue point have a reversing mechanism, and are prone to jamming, and are much bulkier..

My signets jam ocasionaly but a tap on the ground normaly sorts that. I think it happens with all ratchet spanners

philoldsmobile

probably...

the blue point ones definatley do that a lot more though, i guess its because they are small ratchets, i tend to crack the nut with a ring spanner, then spin it off with the ratchet

(when i'm not feeling lazy!)

That's another thing - Must update my tool kit !

My Britool Spanners are bomb-proof . . . . . Unfortunately most of my other decent tools have gradually been lost/worn out/stolen over the last 10 years . . . . . .

55starchief

well britool is no longer around matey only inferior chinese made stuff with the britool logo also kingdick has gone as has sykes pikavant
