Well spent some time yesterday checking out the problems on teh phoon and it does look like spark/ignition related - the timing light was flicking on and off so irregular it was funny!!

2 of the plugs broke on me when trying to remove, and they all cracked (ceramic bit) so they a bit past it, also the leads disintergrated when i pulled them off, roto and dizzy not much betteer - so new parts will be ordered shortly!!

Anyhow - some pics!

F Body

Sort out the leads, dizzy cap & plugs and then you can check the timing.
Seems to have a lot of homemade aftermarket parts ?
As to the red melted thingy , it's something that got too hot

new set of NGK plugs on route to me for midweek as well.....hopefully along with new struts for the tailgate - existing ones are useless as they dont hold the glass open at all!

All i gorra do now is remember to take a HT lead in and get them matched up!

Right the cylinder numbers on them first, it's surprising how many times the workshop manual is differrent to the actual parts

LOL well red is the go faster colour !!!

Goatman

The red melted thingy is a wastegate solenoid. GM #1997152. You will find some improved performance once you replace that, and it'll protect from overboost.
Those are definitely some baaaaaad trucks.

Hmm interesting wonder if that be causing some of the issues i have..

Cheers fer that going off to hunt one down now!!

55starchief

Ian if you cant find it i can PM dwain on PZ and get him to find a price and the part seeing as its probably in the stores where he works

Goatman

$25.00 US. Pretty cheap, and yes, pretty common. Sold a few back in the late 80s early 90s when the Grand Nationals were around. When you start having boost issues it's time for a new one.

In your case though, I'd say it's well past minor issues.

55starchief

Dwain,

Here is a link to ians project. The car is a jap import and has been moded a little by the previouse owner. From memory its only 2 wheel drive now as well

Might be worth giving Geoff or Sue at Astoria (sp) a ring to see how much he can get it for.... Remember, MKB get 15% discount on common parts, and 10% on special order parts....

yeah he is pretty hardcore, he posted this little story yesterday

Quoting:  Goatman

A couple of ladys came in to pick up a car from service. One lady was going to drive her friends car back home. Next to the space where they parked is a 4' tall 4" diameter bright red pole. Two of them. People hit them all the time backing out of the space. Usually in trucks, SUVs, or vans, but this was a (here's the part MA will like) Camaro. She backed out and hit the pole, freaked out, and instead of hitting the brake, planted her foot on the floor. Ripping half the fender and door skin off (fiberglass/plastic), flying backwards into an employee's car almost hitting her friend's Vette that they just picked up, btw, the Vette lady onws both cars. The wheel was still turned to to the right, so she came back accross and hit one of our vendor's personal trucks, then finally came to a stop on a big electrical transformer box. Like a 5x5x5 1/4" thick steel box that got shoved back about 2 feet. Literally toree the left side off the car. Definitely exciting.
