ok further update re the melted thing...

The PN / info re the wastegate thing is right, but it aint that bit that is melted...

If you look at this pic http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6037.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6037.JPG you can see the red bit that is the melted one,  on the left is the solenoid....not melted

Different angle, same area http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6038.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6038.JPG

Another pic of melted thing http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6039.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6039.JPG

basically it has 2 wires coming out of it one goes to here http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6040.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/meltedthing/HPIM6040.JPG (rear of alternato) the other vanishes down underneath the car somewhere...

Any idea what it is

F Body

Looks like it's bolted on to the turbo mounting bracket , no wonder it melted !
Is it (was it) some sort of temperature sender

55starchief

I would think dwain would be right as he has probably seen many when they arnt melted

55starchief

ah ok looks like he gave you the wrong part number, i will ask him to have another look monday when he gets back to work

The second picture is a much better shot than the first one. I've been searching for the past couple of hours trying to find this thing. I can't even find the bracket it's attached to. Is there a wire/cable attached to it? Ground connection, maybe?  Sorry I missed it the first time.

No problems mate!

Yeah there are 2 wires coming from it, 1 goes to rear of alternator, other one vanishs somewhere down under the truck....still gorra try and find where this wires ends up!!!!

OK spent some time this afternoon tracing said red wire from melted thing....

First thing i did was take a closer look at melted red thing, found the red stuff seemed to be heatshrink or similar, so ripped it off and found this underneath, looks to be some form of sensor of summat...

http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6049.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6049.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6050.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6050.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

OK then traced red wire.....it went pass the remote oil pump
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6041.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6041.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>
and ends up at a metal box, mounted on the chasis rail further along from oil pump
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6042.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6042.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

Inside said metal box is 2 relays and what i think is some form of actuator?

Pics of inside of box

http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6044.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6044.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6045.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6045.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

In the following one, the whole is a threaded hole.
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6046.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6046.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

This pic shows top of unit, and has a small inlet, non threaded
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6047.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6047.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

the box looks like this when attached to the chasis - the bottom of the "actuator" is located where the hole is.....
http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6048.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6048.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

Following the other wires BACK from this box, there are 2 "spurs" off the 4 wires that go into the remote oil pump and then they end up at a switch unit inside (see below)

http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6051.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6051.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6053.JPG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"> [img]http://www.yanksrule.co.uk/cars/typhoon/oddbits/HPIM6053.JPG\" border=\"0\"  alt=\"\" width=150>

Im kinda guessing its all linked together (oil pump, box of tricks, switch etc) but it doesn't seem to work - any ideas for where to start look and how i might find what the sensor is and where i can get a new one (as it could be faulty?)

ianjpage

Right well after fiddlng with wires n stuff, i now have the remote oil pump working - it makes a hell of a racket but brings the oil pressure up to about 50-60psi.

After chatting to dave & ray over the w/end we reckon that cos it all tied together (the switch in the cab feeds the remote pump and metal box and various wires go between all of them) there must have been some form of turbo timer at some point, and that working in conjunction with the remote oil pump and we reckon the actuator is the "activation" bit for the remote oil pump and it looks like been removed but left the oil pump and wiring etc in and that still works..i.e. the turbo timer send a pulse to the actuator which turned pump on atomatically (but you also could manually operate uit?)

Would this sound feasable????

Feasable but highly complicated

You sure it's not a thermostat so that the remote pump provides extra oil when the turbo starts to get very hot ?

ianjpage

ERm, pass dont think so as it only seems to operate when button / switch pressed.....will have to see what it like when i drive it round a bit.......
