Ok how about this for an idea

MKB Pump Gas Drag's

Open to all street legal cars running on pump gas, we book the pod for a day. The morning is open practice followed by lunch, catering by the MKB MBBQ during which the times will be collected to form classes ready for a straight shoot out in the afternoon qtr's,semi's and finals in each class.

Could even ask ACW if they would like to cover it and maybe get a couple of local MKB companies to offer up some pots

People seem happy to pay £35-45 for a couple of pulls on a dyno day im sure we could get the price around the £150 or less maybe some sponsor ship?

What do people think

EDGE

i think that price will be fairly steep for a lot of people mate... not weeing on the bonfire, just thnk that might be a bit much.. but that's is how much its likely to cost..

Its about the same price as a track day, and that was based on rays price from when websters ran. He said its about 4k for the day so it would all depend on the number of cars and if we could get any sponsorship for the event

EDGE

oh yeah, i know... i was just saying that whichever way its sliced.. 150 sobs is a stack of cash... not winging... just saying

Well its just an idea, if people like it and tell me what they want to pay we can try and move it forward. That was the maximum it would be otherwise its not do able

Rocky

I would be up for that and some of my family would be too, Im looking at a pro street car as my next project so would be good to get some runs in it. keep me posted

As far as I understand it you would need to consider how it was put to Santa Pod - you can't tell them its a race meeting because they won't allow you to run it (its to do with MSA/FIA safety regulations or something) so it has to be down as a track test day or time trials.

That means discretion from everyone or they'll stop proceedings; if it looks like you're running any sort of ladder they'll spot it

This is the same reason that SRS are down as a time trials meeting

Ah ok thanks for the info there ray, so we could run time trials then but not a heads up.

Im just curious as i think it could be a great day rather than a rwyb with hundreds of cars

ianjpage

yeah could be a good day out but it woudl seriously depend on the £££ as to if i come or not

Rocky

I know where there is a runway unused

Should be ok, but you might have to let our MD race in his Ferrari 360 or his Caterham r500 though....

hehe, he is a professional driver, but all's fair in racing.....

HardRockCamaro

Pah, European sh**e!
Tell him to go to a regular track day that has all the facilties such machiney needs, namely an RAC trailer...

Beign serious, I wouldn't be interested in a £150 test and tune day, I don't own a race car so it seems pointless.  RWYB or even better the £50 Test and Tune days with SRS are good enough for me.
I think SRS at £50 stands more of a chance of getting people to it than a £150 day (as Websters discovered) and even then I haven't seen a lot of the people I know (outside SRS) cough up even £50.  £150 for a day of tuning up is fine for high dollar race cars, but is there any real benefit to your average road car (especially as they don't get hot under the collar in the fire up lane)?

However...

I could be wrong and you may be inundated.  After all, people (used to) spend a lot on a Billing weekend so why not on a Pod weekend?

55starchief

My main reason was if you run a rwyb you might get 10 runs for your £££ where as if we could get the pod for a day and a sensible price you should get a hell of a lot more runs for your ££££

Caterham R500 does 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds... That's not to be scoffed at....

And 500 BHP/ton.... What do you weigh in at I might ask?

HardRockCamaro

Yeah I know, they're very nice toys to be fair and would whip any of my cars (as they should as they cost a zillion times as much).

But if it came to my own folding, they're just not my cup of tea is all...

Titsy

To be fair, they're not my cup of tea either! Tis why I own a yank (for all the pain it gives me).... But I respect what they are and what they are capable of...

Pod

Personally, I reckon SRS and/or RWYB will do pretty much all of us at the moment.
RWYB is cheapest but has the longest queues. If you get there early you should still get 5 or more runs in though, depending on weather and accidents of course.
SRS has less queues and doesn't cost that much more. Plus there's plenty of people around to chat to on improving the car and driving skills.

Maybe after a year of that, a full day testing would be useful.
Right now, even if I had the track to myself for a whole day, I doubt it would achieve much other than practice.

55starchief

I guess its just me then, i cant be doing with waiting all day to get 6 runs on a rwyb, looks like i will have to find some other place to set up the car. I want to play with shock settings, tyre pressures, and adjusting the roll on the axle as well as tweeking the motor to give me the best performance.

That for me is more fun than the drag, hell thats why i used to crew on the beatrice, nothing better than getting to the circuit we would be racing at and deciding what ratios and wing adjustments we would need to run
