Rocky,

any chance of giving me a rough estimate on price to paint the following items..

GPz fuel tank;

will need to be prepped, painted black, the graphics painted on (no vinyl available) kawasaki decals added (supplied) and clearcoated

GPz side pannles; scotchbrighted / flatted down, and re laquerd

GPz tail piece, same as side panels..

the paint is fine on the tail piece and side panels, it just needs laquering so that the finish matches the tank. the couple of small dents in the tank have been repaired (hence the primer)

you can see the shape of the colour blocks on the tank that need to be painted on, then i have some kawasaki decals to go on, they aren't the corect ones (they are unavailable) but are the correct font, slightly larger in silver..

also could you give me an idea how much extra it would cost to have the bellypan and front mudguard painted and clearcoated?

thanks.

Looking good PhilO

Are you repainting the frame as well ?

philoldsmobile

frame is 90% mint, a good brush down with paraffin sorted it.. the only parts of the frame that are going to be painted are the rails that go down from the spine in front of the side panels, and dissapear into the belly pan.. the rest is perfect..

the grab rails fairing brackets and many misc small parts are off for powder coating, and the wheels are probably being powder coated too (still undecided on those)

wheel spindles, chain adjusters and various other small parts are being dispatched for zinc plating on tuesday..

Good early Jap bikes are becoming really collectable now, I suppose because there hasn't really been many alternatives ?

I can't see the current crop of Chinese bikes becoming collectable, because looking at the quality of most of them they'll be lucky to last more than 3 years.
Still the early Jap bikes were a bit of a joke and the Chinese are very quick learners, just look at the transformation of the car industry within the last five years.

Trouble with the tank would be getting a good colour match on the graphics. If the tank doesnt need any work etc your looking at around £100 prepped painted and polished. If you wanted the other bits doing clearcoated etc they would be £60-£70 if i painted at the same time.To put the stripes on the tank would be a bit more but like i said would need a very good colour match.

philoldsmobile

the factory colour match is far from perfect, so as long as they are somewhere near it is ok..

reckon you can do the lot for £200?

Rocky

Are you in a rush for them as im booked up for quite a while on bodywork i might be able to squeeze them in if i have a couple of days spare.

philoldsmobile

no rush at all.. i was thinking about late feb / early march to have them back...

Rocky

philoldsmobile

any chance of dropping the bodywork off sometime over the next couple of weeks? like i said, i'm aiming to have the paint back by late feb / early march, so you can do it as and when you have time..
