Project #5 - Dining Room Table . . .

Yep.

Yesterday I had a vision.

A vision that will, no doubt, spawn into a Dining Room Table for Castle Roadkill.

Start date is likely to be 2008, after Projects #3 & #4 are finished, and as with funding permitting - I expect £1,250 - £1,650.

The purpose of this is to get my initial ideas down and introduce the idea.

This time I'm opting to use 305ci Chevy lumps (as they're not very disirable).  Note I say lumps.
Yes, two, in fact.  Back to back.

To achieve the lower height that the paperweight failed at I'm gonna go for a "No sump" arrangement.
Also Shorty / Hugger Headers, but arranged differently . . .

Again, glass-topped but supported in 4 locations.

I'm also steering away from shiny paint and will be opting for Chrome plate to give it a longer lasting finish.

Chairs are another issue altogether . . . . I'm stumped at the moment . . . But suppose I've got plenty of time, yet.

Dude....this plan rocks

I would love to have an engine table!

If you get some spare time, you could always make me one!

The "Coffee Table" (- See Projects Area) Cost in parts alone about £200.

And that was with a lot of freebies from work.

If I did that again I'd change it which would put the price up about another £100+.

The paperweight - which started out as a table but got too big probably cost around £800+, again with some freebies and again, if done again would cost more with alterations.

I did think about doing it as a business . . . . Still might . . . .

Fieldy

an old work collegue of mine used to build furniture from wood....proper old school carpenter....He DID do it as a living, however, he found it a living, not a business.

If you are business minded there would be nothing to stop you, but I feel it wouldn't be a one man job, so A business it would have to be.

Roadkill

The main thing that slows the process is time and money.

If it was my job I'd have alot more time . . . and as long as I had the money reckon I could turn around bits like this in a couple/few weeks . . .

Fieldy

its also the risk

Enjoy the new project.....Hopefully you'll meet the schedule!!

Fieldy

i mean the risk of leaving the job you have now btw

I know.

Hence it's just a long, slow, part-time hobby at the moment.

You could always trickle feed them onto ebay as and when you finish one?  Have a website available for 'suggestions' (as opposed to orders?)

Kinda how I was thinking.

Interest was shown in the coffee table before . . . So maybe I'll make a couple of them in time ?

I also have considered a Website before . . . this is just more cause to get it done.

Not sure eBay would be the best place to sell, though . . Not convinced people would be prepared to pay the £££ . . . .

Easy to sort out - doesn't need to be fancy.  Just nice simple, good pics and words would be all it needs.

Maybe, maybe not.  Good shop window though, and you can always put on a reserve/end early if the money isn't right.

I may well have a chat with you on Sunday . . . I've wanted one to catalogue my previous car and other projects.
Also to mini-showcase my Tattoo work . . . and to be a kinda extension to the MKB site . . . And now to use as a platform for a job on the side.

Hmm.

Yeah.  I need a website.

O.K.

One with a Front page offering you links to different areas in sub-pages.

Possible yes, but if you want one as a business you will want at least 2 domain names.

O.K.

But why ? - Any particular reason ?

Yeah, for business.

If it were me, at a minimum I'd have the 'shop' on one set of pages/domain name. That way, you give out a URL, it takes them straight to the right page.

Then, you can put any other stuff on a different set of pages/domain(s), which can link seamlessly to the shop if required.

Make any sense?

If you say that can be done, then yeah, O.K, it does.

I already know the two names . . . .

Are they available?

If so get them registered ASAP cos you don't want to find them taken when you need them.

HRC is the man for registering.
