Yeah been reading the specs and its a must as soon as it lands already emailed my phone guy telling him to get one on back order for me.

Was gonna watch the keynote speach but dont have any speakers on this PC

The best thing about the phone is its OSX atlast an alternative to windozzzzzz on a mobile

EDGE

am guessing it wont belong before its up to 20gb, i havnt seen the release date yet

EDGE

yeah, it could do with being higher... althoough, then people would buy it INSTEAD of a video ipod, this way, they have to have both really.... clever bastid mr jobby jobby job head.....

No 3G service but it does have Wi Fi, expected to ship June @ $500 for the 8gb model if you can get one that is

Pod

I heard on the radio this morning that over here it will be 300 quid and available no earlier than October.

Couldn't really care less about mobiles, personally.

HardRockCamaro

I watched the Keynote (Steve Jobs used Google Map to find the local Starbucks, called them and ordered 4,000 Lattes to go as a joke...).

It is shipping in the USA in June, in the UK "hopefully" quarter 4.

From the Keynote it certainly seems fab.

I'm only concerned about teh internet connectivity.
It has Wi-Fi (next to useless really as hot spots are few and far betrween) and EDGE.  Now, I know EDGE is v fast but I'm not sure if we have that over here?  If we get stuck with GPRS then it's a bit poo really, it wants to be 3G by the time it gets here.

Plus some new features will require network support, such as the visual voicemail (and maybe call merging?).

I'm estimating £300-325 PLUS a £35+ per month contract for 18 months for the 4GB one, probably £400 for the 8GB.

Yeah just been chattin with my mate who sells phones for a living, his main concerns are the same as yours with the lack of 3G. The price is about right seeing as the kjam sells for about the same.

He also reckons it will be with voda seeing as its with cingular in the USA and they have a partnership.

Havnt seen edge over here yet and as 3G still has limited availibilty once you get out of a major city im stuck with GPRS

Pod

So it's a cool toy that you can't buy here for ages, will cost a fortune and won't work very well anyway.

hmm in which case im guessing it should really be a microsoft product

all joking aside it will work otherwise some one will get canned, its the way steve jobs works. I bet there were a few engineers praying nothing went wrong when he did the key not speach

Fieldy

It would need 3G before its any use to me aswell.....Looks awesome and was on the net last night trying to find it....glad you posted this up

HardRockCamaro

During the Keynote speech his Clicker stopped working.

After about 10 seconds of it not working he said with a smile on his face: "There are a lot of people in the backroom scrambling like mad right now!!!"

Whatever it ends up as it bumped the share price up $7.10, not bad for a new product launch

Incursus

i-phone looks cool at a glance (might have a closer look when I upgrade in 2009 )

Doesn't have anything on it that I haven't already got on my now 2 year old QTEK 9100 PDA....

They've just made it look flashy to appeal to Jo Public....

Think you'll be paying well over the odds for old technology

Yeah this is aimed at the PDA croud and the ipod fanbois who will buy it becuase of the brand.

Good technology stuffed in there but unless your uber careful with your moby i can see it getting trashed pretty quick.  Oiley fingers and texting???  I like the idea of full webpages though, but on most PDAs you can do that?
1968 VW T2 Bay Bus (currently being restored and upgraded)
1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ (modern classic daily driver)

HardRockCamaro

I had a TMobile Vario and yes it offers pretty much teh same functions.
But the Vario was sluggish, difficult to configure, crashed a lot and was just downright fiddly.

As with the orignal iPod, it's not that it's doing something new, it's just doing it right at last.

Hell yeah, the mac doesnt do anything the PC doesnt either it just does it better.

Having owned a couple of windows powered smartphones they both sucked monkey balls. The Orange SPV decided to delete its own OS and my kjam never actually got further than the initial boot sequence. The iphone if it is actually gonna be called that seeing as cisco systems own that TM has apples own OSX one of if not the most advanced OS available

true... but I have the MDA vario and although it does what it says, the apple one just loks better and may actually stand a chance of working rather than this windows mobile of gayness....
