My '87 IROC's rear bumper has got a ' camaro + ' emblem on it . would this be std or would it have had a a iroc - z emblem on it from the factory ???

Also it just had its first MOT today and it passed no probs but i noticed that some b*stard has stolen 2 of my iroc centre caps anyone know where i can get some from ?

thanks.

As for the emblem, i have no idea, but the site above has all of them in stock

I've used these guys before on more than one occasion, spot on every time

Robbin buggers mate. they are probably sitting in some little shits jeans now and will find there way into a bin in a couple of days. bring back capital punishment

thanks for the link mate. bloody knew they would be expensive

I'm wondering if the camaro + badge was a add on. i'll have to check as i dont want to order the iroc emblem only for it to not fit

Rocky

I think it should be iroc-z its a 5.7 isnt it but then it was an earlier model so may be camaro HRC or Philo should know

CJ-IROCZ

Cheers rocky, it is a 5.7 mate,.

I've also phones up a metal polishing company to see if they can sort the alloys out. the greyish inlay bits are perfect but the silver outlay bits are corroded. daft question but are the outlay bits made from ally and can that be taken back and polished up again ? or is it a job for the pro's

they will probably need to be diamond machined if they looked like fine machining lines on them

Rocky

Yep they need the clearcoat stripping then diamond cut like 55Starchief says.

CJ-IROCZ

so not just a trip down to the local B&Q store then

Sounds an expensive process. Has anyone had their wheels reburb'd and know of the sort of costs incurred ??

sorry for all the questions

Pristine wheels in woburn sands are the current best around here, your gonna be looking about £50 a corner and i think diamond cut is an extra £10 per corner

HardRockCamaro

Refurbing iroc rims cost me £39+vat per corner
That was to acid di them, poweder coat them in the anthrasite colour (the inlaid bit) then diamond cut the faces to take the powder off that bit and make them extra shiney.  Then laquer the whole thing.
Mine was a s-so job at best.

As for the emblems...

Being an 87 the car is a Z28 with the additional IROC-Z package.  (Z28 was dropped in 88 and the model was then an IROC-Z).
This being the case, the emblems should be the same as any other 85-87 IROC.

The rear bumper should have a Z28+ emblem on the right hand side (not sure on colour).
The rear bumper should have a 5.7 Tuned Port Injection silver/chrome emblem on the left hand side.
The front rocker panels (front of side skirts) should have an identical coloured Z28 emblem as per the rear bumper, and below it there should be a 5.7 Tuned Port Injection sticker.

CJ-IROCZ

MY side skirts are right then but my rear bumper has got a camaro + sign so i'll change that and i dont think its got a 5.7 TPI sticker on the left side of the bumper either.

Has anyone got any original pictures of how the '87 iroc left the factory ? i'll start looking around of the internet

I'm going to take my wheels up to the metal polishing place and see what they say. At £50 a corner i'd expect a bloody good job but at least its still a darn site cheaper than aftermarket wheels.

although i would love a set of these bad boys

bet they're mega bucks though

HardRockCamaro

I'm beginning to suspect your car has had it's rear bumper replaced with one from a lower model...

HardRockCamaro

Those are Corvette C5 wheels I believe.

Replicas are (iirc) in the region of $1,000 for the chrome type finish, about $750ish for normal silver.

CJ-IROCZ

Yet i think ya right about the bumper, i've always though the colour was slightly off ,.

I'll post a pic tomorrow and see what you think

the car has very slight shade differences and i'm wondering if its had a accident some time. the wind mirrors are off colour and there is micro blistering on the front wing , so that may have had a spray,. the actual car is in amazing condition though and is spotless underneath but i know nothing about its history. in this pic you can see the shade differences i 'm talking about

HardRockCamaro

It wouldn't be unusual for the car to have had some work during its life.  Mine has had a new front nose cone at least.

Being a California car it had some paint problems so I had it blown over and bought new graphics.  Made a huge difference, especially when the wheels were freshly refurbished too.

I'd remove the rear bumper at some point and check behind it to be sure that if there was some sort of rear impact, it's bene properly sorted.

CJ-IROCZ

the actual car seem straight it jus the shade differences that make me think its had a bump

I've just made the pic a bit bigger so you can see what i mean

I'll take the bumper of and hopefully keep an eye out for an original

Just a heads up, if these are the red ones (like the piccy suggests) they are:

a: Rare as rocking Horse Sh!t
b: Bloody expensive

I had a brand new set for my old car but it took me 6 months to find a new set on ebay, and that was with it on a favourite searches list...

HardRockCamaro

Try getting a brand new IROC+ emblem for the rear bumper in silver/grey with a red bowtie...

CJ-IROCZ

What about a rear iroc bumper in the U.K ??? do ya reckon its possible cause no bugger wants to ship me one

Jamieg285

I might have some centre caps lying around in the garage.  I'll see if I can find them.

Giblets

Craig

As for Centre caps, I had one fall off last year but luckily the car came with two spares.

Getting them to stick on isn't easy though.

I had my wheels fully refurbed at Pristene Wheels in Woburn too.

Total job cost over £300 but they are as good as the factory items now, and mint wheels really set any car off. They were diamond cut and fully polished.

Here's a pic of the result.

Sounds like your bumper was replaced with a different one at some stage. Here's a pic of my arse.

CJ-IROCZ

Cheers Mate.

see my lights are different to that also. should mine be exactly the same rear as yours ??, hope for your sake not cause i'm a right hairy ass'd bastard ,. Your wheels look as good as new , only hope i get as good a job done on mine

Jamie if ya find them i'll gladly buy them off you

FUBAR

The lights varied between the ones above and the single divider bar type that PhilO had (& I assume you do) in the mid - late 80s.  they just couldn't decide which type to use.  my old 87 had the same lights as Rafes and my new one has too, but I think by '89 they had decided on those.

CJ-IROCZ

I see

Yeah mine have got the single divider bar, i like the look of Rafe's though.

Rafe has yours had a spray job or is just been kept in top condition ?

I think the answer for me would be to do what you said HRC and have a blow over to match the colours in
