OK, honesty time now.

I have found A place to park my 1st Yank throughout the summer thanks to an AVO member
So, have spent the last 2 days on the net trying to find something within my very tight £600(ish) price range. There is A thread going on AVO regarding cars that would be good for my 1st yank.

The front runner at the moment is this.....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250083944632&rd=1&rd=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250083944632&rd=1&rd=1

The insurance quote is £318 per year. it has MOT till August and is in the London area. So, I am asking A favour from anybody who can help me....I would like to go view it on Sat morning, but don't really know what I am looking for Can anyone help?

Cheers Guys

Have a chat with roadkill as his brother has owned a couple of those from memory. He might be able to give you some ideas what to look at.

Rob

There was one on Ebay last week in Northampton....Didn't reach reserve...only got to £520.  Not that desirable I don't think...but hey....if that what does it for ya...!

EDGE

dude.... £1000 is not £600.....

Cunning Plan

Insurance is weird.. Im paying about 750 for my custom VW van.. I phoned up to see how much the doughnut wagon would be.. comprehensive was 300 quid.. lol

VW = 1.9D
Astro = 4.3 V6   - go figure..
1968 VW T2 Bay Bus (currently being restored and upgraded)
1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ (modern classic daily driver)

Its very simple, the insurance companies look how man accidents in the uk involved astros and how many involved VW vans and well the rest is simple

The car isn't at the top of my list....Although A clean one will do. I just want something to arrive at any meets in.

If anyone knows any other vehicles for that price, please, let me know

edit to remove number 55SC

Roadkill

LeBarons are pretty good for a first Yank.

They are plagued with leccy problems caused by water getting in due to the 'Vert roofs.

My brothers windows were intermittant.  Power locks were non existant.

Also the "flip-up" light covers never worked . . . which was fine by me as I wasn't a fan.

Occasionally a third gen falls in that bracket . . . or a Pod-shape Mussie.

TBH, You'd quite easily pick up a mid 80's Caddy for that.

Or A white Lincoln that is on EBay right now!

Fieldy

RK....Dont suppose you have Sat morning free if I could go view it, you seem to know some stuff regarding Le Barons and what to look for?

You'd be helping me out huge if you could

Roadkill

Lincoln, from my limited knowledge, seems to suffer with gearbox issues alot.

I've seen alot over the year for sale with missing gears / knackered tranny's.

Tread carefully.

That said mid 80's Caddys normally suffer no more then some electrical gremlins.

No more then any car, mate.

TBH, with the modern injection engines I know very little.

I don't mind having a look, though, if needed.

Well, If you're free Sat Morning and I can get in contact with the seller for A viewing Sat morning?

There's always this.....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150091986617&rd=1&rd=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150091986617&rd=1&rd=1

The seller said 'Make Me An Offer'

Whats it worth?!

Roadkill

TBH, Looking at it, I'd expect the Le Baron to go for £1500+ easy.

I'd go for a bit more of a beater for my first Yank (as I did !)

EDGE

I cant believe you lot are looking at a car in london on the same day im going up to cambridge... what a bad bit of timing..... unless you're looking at it saturday afternoon/evening when I'll be back... any ideas where in london it is ? there's one AWFULLY similar parked outside the house that I have just bought in Cheshunt.....

You're 100% right. the way I saw it....I could go, have a gander, if it goes for more, at least I have learnt A bit more of what to look for.

Fieldy

Thanks for the help though guys!

If it was me i would decide what year and model your looking for, then keep an eye on the prices so you know what they are then try and save for the best you can get.

Nothing worse than buying a car and it being a piece of shit that just eats money. Not the best way to go into a hobby. These cars arnt cheap to run, and need constant spending to keep them both running and looking good. Just ask ryan how much he spent out on his last 3rd gen

EDGE

that's fairly sound advice...

cheeky bugger,

It took 5 years to find my 55, but in the end i got a 1 owner all original car. If only you had seen some of the other cars i got pictures of or went to see in the USA

i can imagine mate... buying a car that old is bound to turn up a load of rotten/damaged ones...

a cheap yank will allways have its problems, like my trofeo, it's ok now but it took a good while to get it right... not much expense but that's because i did all the work myself.

Also, never under estimate that the little things DO cost money and it WILL add up... I figure I spent about £300 on the trofeo, maybe more, and that was all in little bits except the new touchscreen and 4 new tyres...

Something will turn up in your price range dude, just be prepared to turn things down that will over stretch you, anything can be made mint, but at what expense ??
