Hmm could well be there too much heat in the case being generated - as you say test again see what happens, if so add more fans!!!

I don't think there's a problem with anything else in the case, the CPU heatsink is always cool, as far down as I can get my finger to tell anyway, and I checked the RAM last night too and that felt cool, right after it crashed out too, whereas the GPU heatsink felt quite warm, not burning but warm, and that was on the outside surface...

Time for some watercooling or cryogenic cooling system then, fans are so old skool

Na i'm not messing around with watercooling, if the card is actually overheating and the heatsink appears to be attached properly (it does) then i'll replace that with a new one.

Losty

might be worth taking it off and simply refitting after cleaning it, and re-applying heatsink compound/paste

Losty

did you disable fastwrites?  either in the bios or the control panel

sometimes its also called something like sideband addressing...

I didn't no...  i'll test it for an hour or so with this Fan that i've put in the side panel & if its still crashing try that.

If you do need more cooling try those fans ive got dude. Best fans about

FUBAR

ok... I don't know about this over heating thing, its still crashing, lasted about an hour & a bit again then has died twice in about 15 mins and thats with a 92mm fan at full blast pointed right at it...

going to try this fastwrites thing

You could ask titsy for some freeze spray then hit the chipset with it once it has crashed and see if that works

By the time it goes tits up, its too late to use the the spray

it doesn't fix the problem does it, I don't even know if it is overheating, and to do that i'd have to take the heatsink off and either run it with no heatsink (Death) or take it off after its crashed which is completely pointless.

FUBAR

Oh, there is nothing in my BIOS setup about fastwrites or sideband thingying

i'm going to pull the card, see if its clogged at all & try again.

Ok, thats worse... it crashed right away as soon as I joined a server and again 10 mins later.

i'm running out of options, going to have to try a different card...

Ok, POD has pointed me to a temp monitor in the graphics driver and the card is sat at 62degC at desktop... time to play a game & see if that skyrockets

Losty

when i think about it, if it was graphic card temp related, you would tend to get artifacts showing on the screen prior to getting dumped out of game/reboot

I'd say its not temp related

I'm not sure its gfx related either, but, if you were to try and replace the card, i would to egay and have a look at the 256/512 versions of the 6800 gs, or similar, and that way you would be looking at spending around £80ish, and i don't think the uber £220+ card would be worth it ( NO MATTER HOW SHINEY! )

nick69

There is a bloke on egay who sell the Extreme 256mb 7600GS for like £60. Its better than the 7600GT!!!!!

correct you are, its just crashed (Longest stint for ages) and its at 63deg

Thats what I was starting to think... theres a £98 one (inc VAT) on overclockers which is 512mb and looks pretty good
