I've run the Driver Verifier & get this...  it doesn't seem to do anything though...

:in_over_my_head:

I'm now reading through this and getting VERY confused...

Ok...

Looks like I need to turn on something called Special Pool...

On here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188831/EN-US/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188831/EN-US/
It says to do this:

Quoting: Microsoft
This check does not necessarily identify the exact piece of code causing the pool damage, but it may assist in identifying the component causing the damage.

To activate the Special Pool utility, add the following keys and values to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Value Name: PoolTag
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: Pool tag mask | Allocation size mask | 0
The pool tag mask is the pool tag ID containing masking characters of the pool in which you want to put in the special pool. This mask must be specified in hexadecimal in reverse order. This mask may also contain "?" to mask a single character or "*" to mask from here to the end of the tag. For example, to monitor all pools with a pool tag beginning with "Nt", specify "2A744E" (without the quotation marks), which represents "*tN".

Firstly, i've done registry editing before but i've always had total step-by-step guides, mainly for virus tag removal from Norton.  This just says "add the following keys and values to the registry"

I found the 'folder', does anybody know which one?

Ok figured that out... its the DWORD one...  I don't understand the last part about how to do the Data line
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Pod

I've never used the driver verifier, but it looks quite interesting, in a speccy kind of way.

Depending on where it got the list of "verify these drivers" from, I'd suggest removing AVG and see what happens then.

It's DWORD you want from that list.

I hope you've got a backup of everything.

FUBAR

Ok I *THINK* I've put the registry value in alright to monitor all pools (whetever they are!)  More testing needed!

Hi,

fixing BSOD is a new way to recruit members

Anyway FUBAR can you search your pc for a .dmp files. email or attach the file on the forum and I will see which driver is causing the problem.

I will need the one from last night if that was the last time it crashed.

DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL (c5)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high.  This is
caused by drivers that have corrupted the system pool.  Run the driver
verifier against any new (or suspect) drivers, and if that doesn't turn up
the culprit, then use gflags to enable special pool.
Arguments:
Arg1: 8e5f9e03, memory referenced
Arg2: 00000002, IRQL
Arg3: 00000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: 8054ab1a, address which referenced memory

The crashes are games: BF2142, BF2, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Sim City 4 and the Command & Conquer 3 Demo

Games which haven't caused crashes are Flatout 2, Transport Tycoon Deluxe (no suprises there as its ancient) and Homeworld 2

None of my games are No CD Patched

just curious is your motherboard able to accept 4gb of ram ?

most MB have an upper limit and i havent checked yours yet, and why the naffing hell you need 4gb of ram?

if you bear with me with all the questions there will be lots of them and you will be sending me lots of log files and info.

if thats ok with you.

what was the spec of the PC when the crashes started, what have you changed to try and fix it?

FUBAR

I have 2GB of RAM at 2-3-3-6 & 400mHz Setting which Corsair say its more than capable of running at., the CPU is a Athlon XP3200+ 2.4gHz Barton Core & 400mHz FSB

Its a Asrock K7NF2  it can take 3GB

Nothing at all is Overclocked.

The crashes started afer myself & Ian rebuilt it...

Its basically a new Machine because as of now the Mobo, Processor, Heatsink, HDD, GFX Card and Power Supply have been changed...
