Gordon Brown is expected to radically raise the tax on larger-engined cars in Wednesday's Budget.

Some reports suggest that road tax on the least fuel efficient cars will double to around £400 a year

The Budget's green measures fall short of those demanded by environmental lobbyists, some of whom have called for road tax to be raised to over £1,000 for polluting vehicles

This is just a complete load of bullocks
How does owning a vehicle with a large engine pollute the environment
Even an idiot can work out it's how much you drive it !
Therefore if the government are really looking to produce a "green" tax, road tax should be scrapped and put onto the price of petrol.
That way the bigger your engine and the more you drive, the more you pay.
The whole gobal warming arguement is almost a complete waste of time anyway ?
If we stopped using all fossal fuels in the UK today, coal, petrol, diesel and gas in every single vehicle and building, we would stop emitting 1.9% of the worlds carbon footprint

put onto the price of petrol.

But we all know that won't happen as the government relies too much on their pocket money.

Even if it did happen, you can bet they'd work out a way to tax you more then you would've been if they hadn't of changed it.

W@nkers.

Rob

Well if he does put the price of tax up for larger engined cars I'll probably use mine more just to get my moneys worth thus polluting his precious airspace even more......AMEN

As long as there's still the "Historic Vehicle" bracket, I'll just keep buying old, dirty cars.

CJ-IROCZ

Is he talking about all vehicles i.e would this affect those with say an 80's V8. ??? or is it just on newly registered cars ??

On the nail my friend...

Time to start a petition!

Taken from AOL news......

Annual duty on the 225,000 least fuel efficient vehicles purchased brand new since last April, including most 4x4s and sports cars, is set to rise from £210 to more than £400 over the next two years, according to newspaper reports.

Does this mean it will only be the top tax bracket cars are set to rise or all vehicles on a scaled increase....?

The Trans Am doesn't come in the top tax bracket. What about anyone else...?

HardRockCamaro

As far as I am aware it's only on vehicles registered after April this year.

Apart from the small inflationary (or slightly above) increases we have always had, nothing changes for us.
