Ok have been doing a little research and i reckon that my router andsome TCT bits  will be able to bevel the edge on the checker plate. I think this would look better than edging strip

Roadkill

Piccy's look sweet.

What's happening re. the additional steel required for the frame ?

When do we require Art + welder for this ?

If it goes perfect - yes.

But it's unlikely to go perfect, TBH - but it doesn't harm giving it a go . . .

Thought philo was gonna get that this week? as for welding we would need to drag it to my folks place to weld that.

When do we want the steel sheet delivered? or does some one else want to sorce this PHILO?

Thought i would try on an off cut mate and see what result we get first

What is the recomended milling speed mate for aluminium?

My router is variable from 8k-22k

8k-22k

Not that fast !

Try the lowest setting and keep fingers crossed.

We milled Ally in the 100's of revs - not 1,000's . . .

Hmmm i guess if i used the 110v output on the benny i could half the speed

ya will need to go slow,
ya could always grind the edge, and belt sand it round or smooth

Well i guess we have nothing to loos if its a scrap piece, will need some coolant to stop the bit over heating

Coolant ? - With an electric router ?

the motor is at the top of the cutter, so its safe to spray coolant on the cutter tip mate

Roadkill

In that case - Ally works best with an Emulsion cutting lube.

1 part (specific) cutting oil to 8 parts water (from memory).

Or anything's better then nothing . . . .

wil be deliverd tomorrow..

6 meters of 40x40 x 5mm angle steel..

was gonna cost £9.90, but my boss refused to take money for it, so is donating it!

philoldsmobile

as for the sheet, i dunno, i thought that was in someone elses hands..

if we use mild steel, i sugest paneling the sides in three seperate pieces, then mig them together when on the chassis, a skim of filler over the joint, and it would be invisible..

far easier than trying to cut wheel arches in one large panel.

also far easier to transport.

55starchief

HSS Hire centers have a plasma cutter for hire £36 for the day. We could then use a single sheet and not have to worry about welding or body work

philoldsmobile

gonna be an absolute bugger to haul though, plus i dont think sheets come that big..

sheets are 2mx1m which would be almost the perfect size for the sides and with a plasma we could soon cut sheet to fit the other sections

art b

ya just wanna play wiff a plasma cutter[ so do i]

any idea on a price on those?

oh yeah, smoke stacks should be ready to mount on saturday..

i'm gonna punch 6 holes in them, to accept M8 bolts. should be plenty for those..

fireboard is not going to take the weight of the tank dude, so wont work as a heat insulator..

i dont honestly think heat sink is going to be an issue - with the legs and the chequer, there is a huge surface for heat ti dissipate through, and i dont think the chequer is going to get any more than slightly warm..

Will call the steel stockist tomorrow. What you think 4/5 sheets of 1.2mm?

philoldsmobile

i think 4 will be fine...

if its cheap enough, 5 would be better..

i'm gonna guess at least £20 per sheet though..

philoldsmobile

according to MK metals, 22 guage 2x1 sheet is £23.50 inc VAT.

at that price, we wanna keep it to a minimum..

would be £16.78 between 7 people for 5 sheets.

22 guage is very thin, but the price rockets for anything thicker...

any chance of chequer plate for the rar panel deano? we could cut that down to probably three sheets if it were, worst case scenario would be 4 sheets.
