Also forgot to mention that we were going to stop for Diesel in Chesterfield until we saw that it was 108.9p per litre

That's £4.94p a gallon or $10.37 a gallon

Current UK prices are :

Avg.   - Min.   - Max.
Unleaded: 101.7p - 96.9p - 109.9p
Diesel:   105.6p   - 99.9p -   114.9p
LRP:   104.7p   - 99.9p -   110.9p
Super:   108.2p -   99.9p   - 116.9p
LPG:   50.3p   - 42.9p   - 56.9

you cant work it like that, when you compare prices you cant use the exchange rate so if you convert it direct to dollars its $4.95 a gfallon which is only just a little higher than in the us at themoment where the avera=ge seems to be about $3.30

you cant work it like that,

Well the $ is about $2.08 to the £ , so disregarding the fact that a US gallon is smaller than a UK gallon, how can it only be $4.95 in UK money

cause you cant use the exchange rate in a comparison, you have to look at it that the price is the same no matter the currency

philoldsmobile

thats not accurate either, you need to work it agains the average earnings...

so if average wage in the US is $30,000 and in the UK £20,000

for fuel to be the 'same' price, it would have to be $3 in the us to £2 here...

the true comparison of goods is against earnings.. our fuel is still almost 3 times the cost of the US

eeeeeh its tuff upt north.............

ok here's the proper figures...

US Average wage is $38,651 and a gallon average is bang on $3 per US gallon

average UK wage is £23,764 so if you remove the exchange rate, US average earnings are almost 45% higher

so with a US gallon of petrol at almost exactly $3, for the same price ours would need to be £2, at the £5 per gallon we are still 2.5 times more expensive, converted into US without the exchange rate, a gallon of petrol is $7.50

thats how much more of our earnings by comparison are used to buy a gallon of petrol

to summerise, for every gallon of fuel to have the same dent in the wallet to the average man, the yanks would have be paying $7.50

Left the house just after 5:00am this morning and it had all gone, not a sign anywhere, it was just wet

It's sign of age disliking snow, my kids were going crazy last night hoping there would still be enough to go sledging today.

Sorry Kids

I agree with that mode of thinking.

We're still being ripped off.
