Well the Car Failed its MOT today...

Drivers seat - Fixing Replacing tomorrow morning
Steering Wheel loose - Tightened it up a bit when I got home, it now wobbles less but don't know if this will be good enough
Handbrake - LHS Rear wheel has virtually no braking power (Handbrake only).

The current ticket hasn't run out just yet despite what I thought but for a free retest I only have 7 days to fix everything.

dude, re steering wheel conversation - dont pull the wheel yet, as i need to scribe the centerline of the top of the boss

basicly what i will do is fill the holes with weld, then face, re drill and re tap the holes, giving you a proper thread..

got some nice funky stainless button head bolts at work too..

if i take the steering wheel away with me fri eve, i can have it back prob tues night..

55starchief

er why not just helicoil it? lot less work than welding and re drilling etc

FUBAR

Just looking at steering wheels & stuff on summit... there is varying bolt patterns for where they attach to various aftermarket wheels but are they universal where they attach to the Car?

coz i dont have a helicoil kit!!

welding, facing and re drilling is no effort! remember, i have an entire fabrication shop at my disposal!

but those boses are cast mate and the metal is crap quality, but hey knock yourself out. Even easier would be to just put longer bolts through and nylock them at the back

FUBAR

search for this part on summit

LAC-B-26400

looks a bit hokey to me mate...

there is a proper part made by grant (and APC) that specificly fits the thirdgen.. (i believe its listed as firebird though)

philoldsmobile

its about $30 cheaper for the specific part than that one, too

Hokey?

not very good, a little cheesey..

i dont like the idea of a "fits most things" adapter for steering wheels..

granted, many are the same, but i'd rather see my car specificly listed on the package..

also you can buy a grant one (good quality)  for $19, so why spend $60?

Chris

I have asked about the Garage for this eveing & it will probably be ok so if you could pop round & give me a hand that would be cool.  It will probably be easiest if I call you when I get home from the gym.

Big hammer - check,
WD-40 - Check,
Duck Tape - Check,
Copper slip - check,
Swear pot - check.

Sorted if you've got that lot
