hmm ok,
the ones on that site say Grade 5, whereas the ARP ones say "15% stronger than Grade 8"  whats the difference?
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Roadkill

Grade 8 is what we use to construct buildings with !!!

Overkill I think would be the word.

Grade 5 ain't great, though.

What you ideally want is Stainless steel ones . . . .

Hang on . . .

Jamieg285

The bolts are generic 3/8 UNC(-16) thread.  The ARP (and any other make header bolts) have a slightly smaller head on them than a standard bolt, due to the same clearance problems, but can still be too tight to get decent tools on them.

Standard ones are 3/4 inch, but 1 inch can be cut to length if too short.

CSK SKT head,

Isn't Countersunk Socket???   The ones I an on about are Socket Caps.

I would go with ARP studs myself rather than bolts i think they have some with a E clip to make sure the nut wont back off

Roadkill

Maybe try :

Obviously, make sure they've got what you need in them.

Jamieg285

Actually - if you're not particulalry bothered about the head, you can have a set from me - FREEEEEE!

I might have a complete spare set if I dig through the pots, but failing that I can swap out the ones on my motor.  I was going to wait until I HAD to remove them before swapping (paranoid stupidity!!), but I don't mind doing it if you need them.

have read good reviews on these in HotRod and Streetrodder

Hmm, yes and no.

Depends on who you speak to, what industry you're in, what nationality you/they are how old you/they are . . . . . . . .

If it's a recessed socket fitting it can be referred to as "socket".
Like on shallow pan-heads.

Countersunk socket  is deeper (in my experience).
Like on Dome heads, "allen bolts" . . .

Says they're steel which I find odd . . . Why not S/S ?

Also maybe a little overkill for a (basically) stock motor running low compression . . . . ?

It's far easier to take one to the bolt shop and say 'I want 12 of these'!!

its the heating and cooling that loosens the bolts, besides they look uber cool

TBH I'd rather put new ones back in, thanks tho m8.

I'll think, if I do this i'll go with the ARP ones, those locking ones, whilst being kinda funky look a bit overkill for what is very mild V8.

Another question... what would need doing to attach the end of the Stainless Y-Pipe/ Cat pipe thing to my existing exhaust system? Currently its stainless only from the rear axle back.

Anyone know about this?  I assume it would just need welding up??

Definately !!!

Unfortunately, I have to deal with idiots suppliers over the phone, so the "Belt & Braces" description in a wise option.

Either that or you can get a "sleeve" joint . . . .

Huh? Is that like the top end of the Cat pipe in this piccy?

It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Roadkill

Hang on . . .

If you're joining to pipes in a straight (butt) joint . . .

Use these + clamps.

Jamieg285

The 2 flanges (3-bolts) fit to the headers. The single pipe (flared end) will fit over the bottom of the 'Y', and held with the hose clamp.

No idea how the other end fits, or what that larger bracket is for.

FUBAR

Thats to attach to the old Cat hanger I think...

would I also need one of these?

That doesn't look stainless, so the question woud be do you need one of those ?

Jamieg285

What is it? Straight pipe in place of cat?

Roadkill

Looks like it.

FUBAR

No, thats the bit that goes from where the Cat used to be (Replacement pipe included with the y-pipe) to the back axle.

what does "Aluminised" mean when they are talking about these things?

I thought it was stainless but if not no, I don't NEED one of those.
