TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has lost money after publishing his bank details in his newspaper column.
The Top Gear host revealed his account numbers after rubbishing the furore over the loss of 25 million people's personal details on two computer discs.

He wanted to prove the story was a fuss about nothing

But Clarkson admitted he was "wrong" after discovered a reader had used the details to create a £500 direct debit to the charity Diabetes UK

Kenny

hmmm, that just shows how unsecure the direct debit system is...

they should do something about that, as your account number and sort code are not considered private information (hence they are happy to include this info on all your cheques!)

Lucky clarkson did that, maybe someone will do something about it.

well at least DD's cant be put in to individuals accounts

Fieldy

I went in to cancel A DD the other day, He wanted to see my card, I gave it to him, un-signed.

He gave it back saying I should have signed it, so if I could please, so I did. Of course, the new sig on the card and the sig I used to close the DD matched because I did them all in front of him, then I proceeded to open A new DD

At what point was that all 'secure'.....

Cash FTMFW!!!

its a serious flaw, to set up a DD you used to have to sign a mandate form sent to you to authorise it...

that got dropped somewhere along the line fairly recently..
