What year is your TA?

1999

Titsy

It sould be fine for post '96 GM cars...

Gator

right depending on what year car you have your ECU will either be OBD1 or OBD2

there is a connector socket just under the steering wheel area if its a rectangle its obd1 if not its obd 2

i think obd2 was fitted 96 onwards what year is the car

Rob

yeah, I definately know its OBD2

Gator

Rob

I only want it to interrogate and clear service light etc rather than change anything.  Is this any good or are there any similarly priced alternatives?

Yep OBD2.

Now if you had told me on Sunday I had mine in the boot

Incidentally did you know that when the service engine light comes on the engine management system goes into limp home mode
Basically means a lot less power

Just checked the service manual :

To reset service/oil change light turn the ignition switch to the RUN position with the engine off.

Press and hold the odometer trip reset button for approximately 12 seconds.

The light should go out or if the wasn't on in the first place, it resets the computer logarithms which work out when the next service is due

Appears just above speedo 85 point

Ah the penny drops - This will be the one from the "broken" TA ?

Only the LS1 engines ( 98 onwards ) have the service/oil light

Sorry don't know about the earlier one's but these people will :

No....It appears on mine.

The only difference between the one above in my posting and mine is the digial odometer.

Err, far right ?

F Body

I think it must be the service engine light which is lit when the OBD ( On Board Diagnostics ) system detects a DTC ( Diagnostic Trouble code ).

With my Palm based scanner it reads all the codes and allows you to reset them, most scan tools will do it basically the same function
