Was the clutch showing any signs of problems prior?

absolutely nothing at all...

went to change gear, and just felt like i'd missed the gear, but no gear had any drive. thinking "oh shit its the gearbox" i then noticed every gear (including reverse) was the same, and then noticed it did it in neutral too.

TBH, as i've shelled out to have the cam belt done, i want to keep the car at least three years to get the value out of the belt, so having a brand new clutch is no bad thing, as it wont come along and bite me some other time.

also, the car is so bloody fantastic to drive, and so achingly pretty (inside and out) you really can forgive a few glitches..

my brother came up with the theory that all my vehicles are jealous of each other...

the Mustang head i wanted an alfo, so broke. while collecting the alfa the yamasaki got the hump and was stolen, while repairing the yamasaki the alfa got all insecure and broke....

there is no longer any pattern to the makes of cars they recover, but there is a pattern to the failures, its mainly computers

Ain't many hairdressers with £38k to spend

At least it looks as if someone actually designed it, rather than it just fell out of the same Euro jelly mould

Motorama

I dont see the appeal

it's a very ordinary looking car thats clearly living up to its reputation

HardRockCamaro

The new Alfa Spider is *very* pretty.

But...

I'd fear it breaking down and at 38K it's Corvette money so no thank you.

its undoubtedly the best car i've ever owned, its leagues ahead of the mustang in absolutely every way possible.. and despite being a 4 cylinder, its about as quick.. you also have  to consider its much more comfortable, better built, better riding, better handling, better equipped, and unlike the mustang, there is no angle it looks awkward from (if you look at the rear wheel of the mustang standing just off the rear quarter, they look too far in, and the body looks ungainly and awkward..

the design is very subtle, i'm still noticing things about it that i've not seen before..

It looks quite ugly, actually . . . the proportions are all wrong.

This is A never ending thread it seems.....

The fact is, the MKB stemmed through American Motors, nothing else, so it will never be liked by everyone here. I prefer the Mustang, it's more what it represents than what it looks like. I like Mustangs, more the old shape mind, but either or.....

I personally don't see the appeal, especially now that it has broken already

The MKB is just a collection of car people mate, you dont even have to own an american car to be one of us. Its bigger than the cars.

interesting how everyone jumped on the 'oooh its broken down' bit, but no one seemed to notice that a clutch going on a 100,000 mile 8 year old car isn't uncommon, whatever the brand..

in fact, the clutch on ians old mustang GT lasted substantialy less age and mileage.

as for the alfas appeal? well, as a driver at heart, i simply couldn't take how absolutely horribly bland the mustang was to drive, it really is such a dull uninvolving experience, extremely similar in fact to an escort.  The alfa is a true drivers car, it has so much feel through the controls and is wonderfully balanced, really lovely to drive. much better built, more comfortable, quieter, and more economical too..
