Silverstone has unveiled plans for a new pit and paddock complex, which could help to fully update and modernize the track, about flipping time

Damon Hill, President of Silverstone's owners the British Racing Drivers' Club, said "This will ensure Silverstone becomes a showcase for British motorsport, rivalling other great sporting venues like Wembley, Wimbledon and Twickenham."

Well it is currently the Santa Pod of GP racing circuits

The main problem is that the government are quite happy to take all the tax from the F1 companies based in the UK, but aren't prepared to spend anything on promoting the UK as a world class facility, welcome to third world Britain

There is no comparison at all, on any level, when looking at the cost.

Cheapest advance ticket for the GP is £169 for a crap seat, oh, and pay £21 extra to park your car in a muddy field. Have a walk around the pits and mee..... oops, can't do that at the GP

Cheapest advance tickets for the Euro Finals (drag racings equivalent of the GP wekend) is £27 plus £9 for a grandstand ticket on the startline if you want one. Its free to park your car in their muddy field. This is by far the most expensive day in the calendar; average entry cost is £20-25

Walk around the pits, get your eyes streaming with nitro fumes, get deafened by top fuel cars starting up 10ft in front of you. Talk to the crews/drivers, feel involved etc, all included in the entry

At the grand prix you get a couple of hours of racing plus some supporting classes but its mostly looking at an empty track and listening to people you don't like wittering on about race cars you'll never get to drive let alone own.

At the Euro Finals you'll get 8-9 hours of racing with at least 4 pro classess (excl the bikes) plus supporting classes.

Both events are subject to weather but with the Finals being held in September I know which one I'd bet on to have sunshine.

Ripoff pricing in F1 maybe but a full days motorsport entertainment for under £4 ph hour ain't bad

I can't remember it ever being that cheap.

It was £15 to get in the early 90's (92-93), £40 for the weekend. The programmes were £4-5 back then.

Thats 15 years ago, so unless you are older than 30 now I'm guessing that back then you would have been under 16 so would have got in for free anyway? And they still let under 16's go in for free

Given thats its still only £25 on the gate now, and incredibly its still £40 for the weekend or £50 for the full 4 days, I think thats great value.

Like Silverstone, as the original thread stated, they have spent lots on upgrading the facilities and have even more planned for the near future.

I'm so lost in this thread.....

This was back in the mid 90's maybe £5 was a little exaggeration but it was definatley less than £15 i might even have a ticket some place if i really go dredge through my boxes of shite.

The fact is that motorsport in this country is over priced plain and simple.

Yanks weekend was one of the bargains of the century last year, cost me next to nothing and there was loads of professional drag racers there......That included camping, entertainment etc......

Get dredging then, 'coz you're wrong - and I'll point you in the direction of a whole forum of drag racing fans who'll tell you the same

Even the RWYBs have been £10 entry since 1999!!

55starchief

The point is that if you are going to a motorsport event and standing to watch then there is no excuse to pay more than £10 to enter. Show me the justification to charge more? Lets not forget that most motorsport complexes are used through out the year and charge a premium for this so to bring out your paying for facilities is not a valid argument. How much do sponsors pay to have their names on the boards at the pod? Im all for business but at some point there is a cutoff between making a profit to cover the running and the gouging of the fans. As soon as the FIA gets invlved prices seem to increase

agree with you on that on, malory is a great circuit and if they tried to modernize that it would loose all of its character. We had some prety quick laps arund there with the old westfield

If you want modern have a look at rockingham which is a sole less concrete behmouth
