Well I finally gave up at 3:25am !

I'm actually using it now so all is not lost yet


The remaining problem is with the Lavasoft Adware ?

It'll start to run the program, but it gets 75% through and the computer freezes, I've tried cancelling the scan and even at the start of the scan it just locks up

It's showing a whole host of threats but I can't finish or stop the scan to do anything about them

Even tried deleting the program and reloading it, but with the same result !
The same program works fine on the other computer ???

Hmm odd,  have u tried running spybot first ??

Also what AV software are you running - if its the pre installed norton - uinstall it and load AVG on....

1st thing I did was uninstall Norton & install Virgin Media PC Guard

try it using windows safe mode see if it will run then.....fyi safe mode is accessed by hittin F8 just as the very first black 'windowsxp' screen appears

The picture on my higher spec PC was a lot darker and very slow to update, now it's bright crystal clear and almost video quality

She likes it talking to her ?

So far I've heard " Please log on " " Welcome " and "your battery is fully charged " if she doesn't get off off it soon it's going to say " Your father has just turned it off "

OK sorted this machine today:


Machine 3
Pentium 4 Mobile - 1.8Ghz
256mb RAM
40Gb Hard Drive
CDRW/DVD-ROM
16mb Video Card

This one is cheaper than the others as has a few issues:
- missing 2 keys (page Up & Page Down)
- Very Loose hinge/screen
- Blue verical line on screen (Approx 1inch from right side of screen)
- Error on bootup about iminient hard disc failure (boots fine and works fine but just errors saying "imminent hard drive failure predicted" - if someone from MKB has I will find replacement 40gb HDD)

THe only issue this has is the hinge is slightly loose and there is a piece of tape holding the plastic cover down above the keyboard (see pic) this is simply due the screw hole snapping off, otherwise the machine works perfecltly.

Ran the update last night <again> on the Lavasoft Adware program and it found a new update, downloaded it and it all ran perfectly, it found 88 threats

So after wasting hours and getting all stressed out all I had to do was sit back and do FA < LOL >
