FUBAR

The sticker on the hood of my Car says 6deg (DR) for an auto Transmission and 6Deg (N) for a manual.

I assume this means that when its in drive which could be interesting to setup...

6 degrees before top dead centre.

Make sure you set it with the ecu ignition advance wire unplugged.

iirc it's the brown one up in the loom at the back on the passenger side...

cheers Andy id did disconnect the advance wire, do you need to bypass the ecu ie short terminals A/B on the ecu block as well?

and should it be in park or drive

its a lot better than it was coz it was way off

edit

found the sticker

cant do it in drive though surely coz i might run myself over that must mean something else Ryan

Dude your talking all electrickery stuff!!!

do you need to bypass the ecu ie short terminals A/B on the ecu block as well?

Does that have a UNC or UNF thread?

No need to do both as it has the same effect.  Personally I just unplug the wire, with no connection the ecu can't possibly interfere.

and should it be in park or drive

I stand to be corrected but...
I don't see why it should matter as again the ecu is disconnected so it isn't adjusting the timing and as long as the idle speed is the same in drive and park you're still setting the base timing to be 6 deg btdc at idle.  As you would clearly have to set it in neutral on a manual i fail to see why you shouldn't be doing it in neutral in an auto...

Jamieg285

Is there a vaccum advance on these 'modern' things?

That could explain the drive/neutral question.

EDGE

im pretty sure its ecu controlled

Gator

right got timing set spot on in drive

set the IAC and TPS (nick are you paying attention heh heh) correctly

its a whole lot better but still lopes at idle and stutters when the hammer is dropped ? i am figuring plugs atm coz i dont think they have ever been changed

am praying its not the camshaft
