This was circulated at work (officially).  Two of the Four I knew (first and last), but the second and third one sound very interesting, and would be useful if i had a spare set of keys

Emergency
The emergency number worldwide for mobile phones is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area for your mobile network, in an emergency dial 112. The mobile will search all networks to establish an emergency, number for you. Also the number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked.

Have you locked your keys in the car?
If your car has a remote keyless entry, and you lock your keys in the car, call home, on your mobile, and get someone to locate your spare set of keys. Hold your mobile about quarter of a metre from the door of your car. Have the person on the other end press the unlock button on your spare set of keys while holding it near to the mobile phone they are using. It will unlock your car, saves someone having to drive your spare set of keys to you.

Hidden battery power
If your mobile battery is very low. Press the keys *3370# your mobile will restart showing a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will recharge when you next charge your mobile phone.

How to disable a stolen mobile
To check your mobile phone's serial number key in *#06#. A 15 digit number, which is unique to your handset, will appear. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. If your phone is stolen, ring your service provider giving them this code. They can then block the phone, even if the SIM is changed, the phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but you will know that whoever stole the phone cannot use it or sell it.
If everyone did this there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

I was interested in this magical code (why would manufacturers do this? they could sell more phones is they advertised the full battery potential).

So I did a little investigating. Apparently, it is just a code to reduce the call quality, which in turn will increase the talk time left in the battery.

In fact one site said this was the code to turn ON the increased quality, and to turn it off you need #3370#.

It also appears this is a mainly a nokia only function, although other codes are probably available for other manufacturers.

Now i've just got to try the car lock thing....

The serial number bit is correct.

I like the one using the phone to send a remote control signal at home to unlock your car - I can't even guess at how many people would have rushed out to try that one.

It reminds me of the BBCs 'Smellovision' special back in the 70's when people were urged to get closer to the tv to smell the food cooking - most people of course forgetting to look at the date in the corner of the screen - 01/04
