As a follow-up to one of my other posts, I have now found a local company that's prepared to work with me on this service.
If it's anodised metal we can do it!

Gator

very cool i thought it might look naff when you said about it but thats well good

F Body

That looks
How deep is the etch

HardRockCamaro

You virtually can't feel it, it's so shallow.
Basically it just takes off the uber thin anodising layer.

I need to pull my finger out and upload more stuff to it and stop being lazy and tag stuff...

Here's a photo that I grabbed off the net (Sharon Stone if you're wondering) and tried putting through the machine.

This etch is just 1 inch wide so it would fit on the back of the metal clip on an iPod Shuffle...

The white speckles are not from the etch, it's just how the flash gun lights up the alloy...

Who's the company? I'm not looking to get a laptop etched, my Dell is Magnesium and i'm not sure the results would be plesant... However I am looking for a supplier to cut, anodise, and etch some camera mounts...

HardRockCamaro

They don't do metal cutting or anodising, they're just a printers.

You're best speaking to Kid Rock as his dad has a cutter and can etch.

Not quite, it's 3.5kg... But what do you expect from a desktop replacement...

Fieldy

looks awesome

Did you get a good price in the end??

HardRockCamaro

Yeah pretty good considering that the only other place I could find in the UK that does this wanted £200...

HardRockCamaro

Well here's my solution for MacBooks (or any other plastic item really) that people might want customising.

Full colour, custom printed, pre-cut to fit skins/wraps.

I'm gonna get my iPhone done just as soon as Apple furnish me with a replacement for my faulty one...

What do people think?  Good idea or bad idea?

Could certainly see companies using it for advertising on company laptops etc.

Surely they just work...

It did just then.  But not now...

Hehe!

The WiFi oacked up, a diagnostic scan in the Apple Store showed no problems with the chipset so they're guessing the antenna connection may have come adrift.  They've ordered me a new one.
Problem is, with such high demand how long before I can get one?  They sold a million in the first 3 days...
I can use my email and stuff on the 3G anyway so it doesn't particularly matter.

But no, it's not good is it?

Will look good initially, but will it wear out over time ?

Hope its not us....I know we got something in there, probably bluetooth but we do WiFi modules as well.

Good question...

It's printed on proper high end vinyl, 10 or 15 year life in the sun (so they say).  On a laptop it only needs to last 3 years I suppose.  But general damage and marks, I don't know...  I think it would be harder to mark if the chosen graphic didn't leave so much white space as obviously it's easier to se on white...
