Cunning Plan

Looking at the project last night, I noted some welding and tidying that needs doing (still)  :?

Made a model of it to keep track of it a bit easier.

Psssh, what good is a computer model! Should all be fag packet drawings, with dog eared corners an oil stain here and all the vital dimensions lost because you tipped your cuppa over it.

Looks good though! Not long till the roll surely?

I guess not, but I still have to buy the roller Just doing everything else until I do buy them..

Don't think I will do that welding just yet (apart from the wheel arch). Think I'll get it on the road and MOT'd then get grind the front back off to get it welded etc..

May be CP should take some short cuts

Finished the top-dash restoration.

Complete with a white-faced monster top-mounted tach waiting to be mounted.

Also finished the engine bay minus the section in the middle which was dented and annoyed me, so I decided to hammer out the dent messing the fresh paint. When I roll the chassis I will finish off straightening it out and give it another blow over.

Not sure what you mean - but the paint is still wet there which would explain it looking 'odd'

Monster tach mounted.

Completely pointless as there is no engine, box, suspension, interior etc, but I've been sanding, painting and hammering so much, I just wanted to see something cool and clean

Every project needs a white board, 25% for things to do, 75% for doodles!

Andy

Also, what the heck are you fitting 10k?

When it hits 10k you're allowed to shout...

'V-tech kicked in y'all!!'

ROFL

The engine I have now will reach 4k, the stroker I want to build should get to about 6.5k - not that I would ever drive it like that all the time, just wouldn't want to be red-lining it all the time.

The main reason for getting the monster apart from looking cool and the shift light, is the size - I found with smaller top-mounted tachos, they are hard to really see the differences between numbers and in an engine that runs a slow RPM, every hundered is important to monitor. I found this especially true in my 1.9 diesel wedge - again limit was 4.5k :geek:

Began taking the front beam apart..

I then realised that you don't need to take the drum apart to take it off

Once the beam is off, welded up if needed, then powder coated, then back on with the Red 9 EZ kit, then the wheels so the bus can be rolled on a chassis roller.

FYI ONLY ever use the VHT version of this paint

I've done various trials and the others ain't worth squat.

Update:

Beam is off!

You can see on the towers someone has been welding. But it looks like the welds are coming apart. The beam is pretty solid really, it is easially repaireable but.... I think I want a new beam.

THINK I may go for the Red9 beam as it is a stock size (not that keen on narrowed stuff) plus rather than messing around with another second-hand beam, restoring it and getting it powder coated - it may just be quicker and work out a hundred quid difference or so when you factor in devliery etc. Also new bushes I think will be a good plan.

This should be the best option when coupled with the Red9 coil-over kit I already have:

Yeah, CP does that all the time . . . pretty good for a one-handed post, though.
