Nice work - I'm assuming he tackles other stuff, too, other than VeeDub stuff ?

Self perpetuating market that, fixing rusty Vee dubs. By the time they're all welded up the end you started on it already rotten Like painting the Forth Rail bridge

Yup. He does anything 'classic'.

Here's a Morris Minor he's done:

Sounds about right

Cleaned up some parts whilst waiting for the bus welding. All have been soaked in vinegar for a while

A quick brush with the wire-wheel - ready for some paint.  8)

Started modifying one of the indicators for an idea to put the side-light in a section of it (partitioned off from the indicator itself).

Also added another new sticker

I could do with one of those low vehicle stickers as well!

It is on my site dude if you want one

Had a quick play with modifying the indicators to accept a side-light as well.

Think I will just take the orange reflector out completely and run a orange bulb for the indicator.

Now I know the idea works, I will get another set of indicators to make the fixing holes neater and I will have the second set of bulb holders and connectors.

Wow! That's a lotta rust!

How much does this guy charge for his work? Just out of interest

It depends on the restoration and what extent you want it restored to - best to call him if you have something you want doing. As a guide, it can be from £20-50 an hour.

I was just about to say a similar thing!, they sure do rot those Buses don't they!! still, with all the protection thats going into/on it as you go you're certainly doing the job properly.
It's the time that we kill that keeps us alive...

Cheers..

Thing is, it isn't that bad.

You learn that anything is restorable working with VWs - rightly or wrongly.

Take a look at what someone else is restoring:

There is no front chassis! He is rebuilding all of the chassis

Not much happening, I have just been working on 'inexpensive' tasks to do. So, lots of cleaning and wire-wheeling getting parts ready to paint.

I also straightened out the bumpers ready to either paint or run ratty - I haven't decided yet.

Craig - Now going to do your paperwork bud, I will email it over in a minute ;)

Got it the other day - cheers

Did a bit of preparation ready to spray paint the parts getting spray painted (just the 'totem pole' and the dash vents, everything else is getting some harder wearing stuff  :msn4: ).

Everything coated in Metal Ready.

Why does everything look good in red oxide / primer  :angeldevil:

You should see Philo's Axe collection

How long before the welding is finished :mr green: ?

Fieldy

The thing is, I have only read a few pages of this and it is all very impressive, but because I have never met you CP, I actually imagine you looking exactly like Otto and driving restoring this to look like the Springfield elementary bus...

All aboard!

RK / IJP and Philo have all met me - you and Andy obviously just don't make enough effort

Yep, wouldn't disagree with that!

More:

On to the rear floor section by the bulk-head.

See this is why you go to a good, professional restorer - perfect welding.

And you know he is good when he is fabricating stuff like this for fun

Next is the front chin area, front tubs then flip back over for chassis coating - then we are done with that part of the restoration!

I'm just worried about how much all this is costing

hmmm. Me too.

But I still haven't spent more than the bus is worth on the road, with an engine etc.

I think I will be just over that including purchase price etc, but then the idea is to use it and let it appreciate.

You only live once, so make the most of it!

All the parts that needed painting that I have right now have been painted:

Next mini project whilst waiting for the welding to be complete (I keep adding more stuff onto the welding list that I'm not happy with   ), I thought I would rebuild the rack.

Mainly as it is a little tatty rather than 'ratty' - so i may as well make it tidy. You can see where someone has snapped off the screw heads and a few of the supports for the top bar are discoloured. I will give the wood a quick rub down and varnish too.

Kind of funny when I am just going to load it back up with ratty stuff

Nice work.  As always.

Got a proposed finish date, yet ?
