No.. Just as and when I think. Trying to do something to it everyday

Dubs and Classics have been busy!

Bascially, A posts needed completly rebuilding, new front lower pannel, indicator holes corrected and new mounts fabricated, arches and tubs done.

Rack is now done:

All the metal work was keyed, cleaned and resprayed with just a grey I had spare.



Wood sanded back a little, cleaned.



Then wood-stained.



I replaced the small piece of cracked rubber on the supports that attach to the cutters with a bigger, better piece of rubber.



The rubber was actually recycled from an old bicycle inner-tube.



Back together.



All new fixings and loctight on most of them to stop them rattling loose.

Are them Nyloc Nuts done up in that picture?  If so its not worth using them.  You should have two or three threads showing through the nut or they will just rattle loose.

But they're Nyloks !

If you'd tweeked them up a few more turns you wouldn't need loctight.

The new fixings I bought were a few mm too short, but they just about grip onto the nylok compound. However, to make sure I put loctight on all of them.

Soooo, after all this time, I started playing with the only thing i actually wanted to play with.







Plan is to get this engine up and running, just a basic setup, then perhaps build something tasty later.

You yank guys will probably laugh at the 1600cc of air-cooled flat-4 power.

Parts are accumulating  8)

It's a pity that the cylinder heads have to be shoulded by the air cooling ducting

If the cylinders were black with gold heads and were on show it would look awesome

Yah, I know what you mean.

But you can do quite a lot of good stuff with them, especially when you detail the tinware (cooling ducting).

Looking cool man! My friend who was a Beetle guy loved working on the engine. He said it was so simple, etc.

Yes fella, I do, but I'm not sure exactly how much is left. I will check that I have what you need and let you know.

I haven't got enough for 75mm square, but you could possibly get x2 75x45mm out of it though.

hmmm... might be enough, i'll check. its for the cups on the paddock stand for the bike...

Engine top-end apart..  

Case looks OK, can't see anything wrong with it, turns nice and smoothly with very little end-float - if at all. So, still going ahead with my original plan to clean this engine up, new valves, dissy, carbs etc and use as a temporary engine just to get the bus on the road at some point.







There is a crack across one of the cooling fins in one of the heads and some chips in the valve base, but I think it will be OK as a 'get you by' engine, as confirmed on another thread by EB guys.  8)

Yup, and here comes some more tallent:

Finishing off the front pannel from in the bus:



Stone-chipped / sealed.



Light repair.





Top wheel-arch repair, again nicely done to fabricate the original 'lip'.





Straight lines! No more wavey-ness by the door shuts  8)  Nice skills by Dubs and Classics here as I know there was filler and rubbish metal to work with.







Few more bits left, then roll again and stone-chip the 'like new' chassis  :mrgreen:

Dubs and Classics might have a new toy to play with for the last time we need to roll my bus, so keep watching
