Anyone got any colour suggestions for the walls ?

Battleship Grey, more practical than white and will make it look modern industrial ( assuming that's the sort of look you want )

Roadkill

I'm kinda after a "homely" feel . . . .

The basic choice for garage floor paints is light grey, dark grey, mid-blue, red or a sandy colour.

So the walls need to suit.

I was thinking of flaming the lower half of the walls but I dunno.

hehehe great minds. After spending that much time and effort it would be a shame to paint it like a garage. Flame it or some mega size pinstriping design. A neutral base colour with some great graphics, make it a garage to come home to.

Cunning Plan

Looks uber dude..

When are the speakers going in? How are they?

Are you going to put strip flourestantnananttnat tubes up?

Is that how you cover plaster board then? Jointing compound to cover the joints then plaster over the top??

i always use easifill ,mix it up with water and sand it down with a pole and sanding pad,
takes next to no time......painting it makes it rock solid...

ya do if you have boards with tapered edges,
there made to have a tape and joint finish then fill the recessed screws in the rest of the board, and paint with a couple of coats of emulsion
This forum needs, ''YOU'' posting,Not just reading ! :moon:

Straight after the painting is finished (ie.  no more dust).

Great.  Ian replaced the speaker-to-speaker cable as I wanted them up to 8 feet apart - that's done and they sound sweet . . . Sub is awesome, too.

That was the original plan but is currently in debate as the light given out by the existing energy savers is pretty good as is.

Yes and no.

If you use T.E (tapered edge) plasterboard you use jointing compound and tape to JUST fill the recesses at the edges of the boards . .

If you use S.E (square edge) boards it's the norm to plaster the entire surface.

Either option you'd use a form of tape to bridge the gaps - which should be no more than 6mm (i tend to go for 2-3mm gaps personally).

The later is done mainly in smaller areas as it's generally more costly.

I see.. i have an outhouse that is being converted into an office to do at my parent's house and haven't plastered or artex'd before

Definately go T.E boards - with as few joints as possble.

When the time comes PM me and I'll run through it with you if ya want.

Roadkill

I think I'm "over the worst", now . . .

The walls have been rubbed-down . . .

And then painted once with white to show any further minor imperfections . . . and then fine-filled . . . .

And on Saturday I artexed the entire ceiling (never artexed a ceiling before) . . . .

Next job is to put another coat of white on the walls - that'll be the final one before the top-coat-colour(s).

Then I'll paint the ceiling once with a slightly watered-down mix of white . . . . . and then the coving can go up.

Big Mouse

Why didn't you put the coving up first?

What did you decide on for the wall design?

I never have.  I know, I know it's supposed to go up first and then the artex is finished round it but I prefer the look of the stipples right up to the line of the coving.

Just preference . . . plus, as the coving was put up after the ceilings were done in the rest of the house, this way it matches !

Although the colours haven't been decided yet I'm leaning towards "flaming" the bottom half of the wall.  The plan would be to paint the skirting boards the same colour as the lower section of wall so the skirting boards will be an up-coming job, shortly.

I was also toying with the idea of running a pin stripe the length of the garage, too (with some design incorporated into it), but will see how the flaming goes first as it may be enough as is.

Painting the final coat of white on the walls tonight . . . . .

Roadkill

I've been a little half-ar$ed of late . . . not getting stuck into things when I've got in from work . . .

So I spent 3 hours or so hoovering (until the hoover cut-out), marking out and fitting the coving last night.

I must admit, as expected, the coving brings the walls and ceiling together nicely and, once filled and painted, should give me the "pick-me-up" I need to get the job done.

Tonights job is to finish fitting the coving, do most of the coving-related filling, fit the PC speakers to the ceiling and finish hoovering the worst of the dust up.

If I can get that done, and with a bit of luck, I should be able to get the coving finished and painted and the final coats of paint on the ceiling by sunday evening.

ianjpage

lol progress slowed a little then - did wonder what haad been happening ...

as always let us know if ya need a hand

SEMI-DONE . . . . They're in place but I will have to put some more thought into mounting them on the ceiling . . . shouldn't be an issue, though.

DONE

I'm a bit limited on what I can tackle tonight - which is handy as I've got other stuff to be doing this evening - so the plan is just to have a little tidy-up and finish filling / smoothing the coving - ready for paint on Friday.

Roadkill

Hmm.

Progress has been a little slow due to other commitments and my recent holiday but there's been reasonable progression over the last couple of days.

The ceiling is now finished and painted.

I need to give it one final check but I believe the coving, too, is all done.

The walls are ready for colour.

The new lights are on order and should be here any day, now (but I want to paint the walls before installing them).

The main change is the floor.  An old board was pulled, the threshold between new and older floors repaired and secured and a couple of holes left-over after I modified the piers have also been filled.

Last night the "new" 6mm boards were cut and tacked down, also, completing the floor structure.

The floor needs a bloody good scrub, a sand and the joints filled and then it'll also be ready for fresh paint.

Getting there . . . . . . . (they can inscribe that on my Tombstone)

Roadkill

The new lights arrived yesterday - they look awesome !

Also went out and got the paint . . . 2 x 5L of Dulux mixed paint . . . normally £31.99 a can BUT, as luck would have it, on special offer at 2 FOR £30 !!!

Result !

Also picked up the fixings I need to put the lights up and some ring nails for the upper H/B deck.

I'll be giving it some tonight.
