This is gonna be a nice, simple (relatively) cheap project.

The idea is simple - take a bare V8 motor, shot blast, smooth out the lines, remove casting flash etc . . paint, add core plugs then add S/S rolled inserts into the bores to except 8 x Wine bottles !

I may or may not add a sump . . . not sure yet.

This is NOT a priority but will be seeing attention over the winter due to its simpilicity.

So.  Start with one bare 400ci Pontiac block £40 :

Shopping so far has been one set of core plugs - about £8 :

And that's it for now . . . next job is shot-blasting . . but I need a car first as it won't fit in my bikes' panniers !

Jo

Thats so cool... huge tho and only for 8 bottles and where will you have room to put it?

I'm new to wine drinking . . .

It's probably gonna go where the "paperweight" is, now (the paperweight is moving into the lounge next year).

Jo

Ahhh ok, wines great sure you'll get into it..... cool going to look good

It would.

It'll probably be the most used part from the car, in the end !

It would.

Well at least part of the car will have a useful life

Big Mouse

wine rack, boat anchor, door stop - the list of useful things you can do with a poncho motor is endless

F Body

I'm thinking that the block would look dam fine zinc or chrome plated

Nah.  Too bling.

I like to keep the look of realism, hence the paint approach.

Plus I wouldn't even like to guess how much plating would be for something that size and weight.

Well I got those brake discs bright zinc plated for £40 and they had some really big stuff being lowering into tanks by crane
I think they'd do it for £50 - £60

As long as it matches the rest of the theme in the kitchen then it'll look great.

If the kitchen has lots of red items (like those kitchenaid appliances) then go with red.

If you have a lot of chrome stuff, go with chrome...

philoldsmobile

deep gloss black would look good...

Roadkill

I'm thinking dark blue, but the paperweight's dark blue, so maybe dark red.

I'm thinking of picking up another 400 block and bolting the two, back-to-back and fitting them to a swivel base . . .

Or maybe stacking one on top of the other . . . that kinda justifies a space in the corner of the room more . . .

Roadkill

Excellent - I was only thinking about this project earlier.

Cheap 400 block ripe for some new furniture..

Looks like he's hoping to sell it with the crank for £500

You need to start paying attention Mr F-Body.... Hes's selling a 455 and crank for £500; the 400 block is up for auction...

yes my young Padowan send it over

Roadkill

O.K, ta.

It's for the block I've got at home - I ideally want two identical blocks . . the one on ebay's a '76 - I don't remember what year the one I have is.

I'll put it up when I get home which'll be around 7pm.
