Not at all... I was just a long line of cars in 100F heat and I figured if it was sat running for 25 at idle it would heat up to the point of the fans coming on... I just figured, Hot engine = ignition retard = power reduction

yes but only because it runs - ran - in a street legal class where we needed lights, horn, indicators etc otherwise we wouldn't have bothered and saved some weight

The amount of cranking power needed to turn those engines, and mine is relatively small, is very hard on the batteries - as Ian will attest to 'cos he had to run back to the pits on more than one occasion to collect the starter pack

I still find it slightly amazing that I managed to drive my car from the Barn in Brackley to home [on Ian's full van battery] with what turned out to be a dead alternator, I even had the headlights on for a bit, that was until we realised that the indicators were slower with the lights on & there must be a power drain problem...
