My faith in driving humanity is gone again...

After having my faith restored last year : http://www.mkb.cc/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum=1&topic=7981&page=0#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Car Park Prang...

it is now gone again!

Chris and I went out to pop to Wolverton Tesco about 7:30, and as we were nearing the Wolverton Road roundabout on Queen Elenor Street to turn right, a Merc comes round making a left turn from Wolverton towards Galley Hill traveling far to fast on wet roads with leaves on the ground. His or her back end stepped way out of line (i'm guessing it was RWD) and tags the back end of the Focus. I stopped almost imediatly as I was slowing for the roundabout anyway. He or she stops about 50 - 70 yards up the road..... and then decides that stopping isn't in his or her best interest, and so pulls away. I make a quick u-turn and follow them up the road a bit, we got close enough to read the number plate (which is all I wanted at that point) and at that point I think they twigged it was us and decided to boot it... So we stopped, but the trailing bumper in the boot and went home to ring the police...

Have been in with my docs and made a statement and they have run a check on the car and will be contacting them shortly...

They other car was insured, which begs the question, why didn't they stop?

Titsy

Forgot to say, there doesn't appear to be any panel damage, but the rear bumper was almost completely ripped off which leaves me without a fog light or a reverse light, and means that the car is not technically leagal to drive...

Amey

Not good - hopefully something will come from the police report

Makes you wonder if it was the car owner behind the wheel

HardRockCamaro

Indeed...

I don't know if you can jerry rig the fog light, but you don't need a reverse light by law.

Titsy

I have the Camaro to fall back on, and a guy from work stops at my house during the week, so it shouldt't be a problem hopefully...

On drugs which is now 3 times more likely than drink driving

I've said for the last 30 years that the penalties for failure to stop after an accident need to be doubled, from what ever offence you committed
As it stands your better off making a run for it

Fieldy

Un-fortunately this happens, I think most of the time it is simply the thought of their insurance going up that makes it not viable to stop.

we spun out on the M25 yesterday using up all 3 lanes back and forth a few times until coming to a stop in the wrong direction, some brilliant thinking from the lady in the slow lane (and risky) meant she actually gradually slowed down both the slow and middle lane by bridging them for us meaning no-one could get through but also no-one stopped suddenly, no-one 'crashed' as such and after a breather on the hard shoulder we carried on our journey.

There are a mix of people out there, that simply means we will never always get the result we are after

AC10 Failing to stop after an accident 5-10 points
AC20 Failing to give particulars or to report an accident within 24 hours 5-10 points
CD30 Driving without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other road users 3-9
Offence codes CU10 to CU80 must stay on a driving licence for four years from date of offence.

Yes but drug/drink driving is generally a two year ban and stays on your licence for ten years, so the law encourages people not to stop

Doubt Plod will do anything ( they are currently too busy moaning about the use of private security firms to do there job ) , if your lucky you might get their insurance details, but the insurance will call it knock for knock unless you have other witnesses

Titsy

The insurance company thinks things look promising to make a full recovery, and they have the insurace details from the reg plate. They guy said that they will be doing everything they can to recover the losses from the other party.

Remember driving away from the scene is as good as admitting guilt. If it wasn't their fault then they would have had no reason to leg it...

But... If for whatever reason they can't get the other party to admit full liability then I loose two years off my 6 years no claims and £125 excess...

Titsy

BTW the only witnesses to the accident were myself and Chris, there were no other cars around...

Might be worth looking to see if the roundabout is covered by CCTV

Rob

Little bit of rain and all the idiot drivers come out.......

hit a whole load of water that was all the way across the lanes, no avoiding (was only doing 70 too as the spray etc was bad)... It wasn't a calm affair, but the adrenaline started fast in the body!

Good luck Titsy, CCTV is your best bet, you'd be surprised how much is covered

Roadkill

W@nker.

At least you caught up with them and got their number plate . . .

Titsy

Nothing from the Police yet, my car was collected for repair on Monday, but i've just had a call to say it won't be fixed till next Thursday... I don't get a courtesy car so that's going to suck...

Fieldy

NEXT Thurs? Wow, thats a fair amount of time

The Camaro comes out to play

It already has been... I'm driving it when the weather isn't too bad and banking some lifts with a guy I work with for wet days... But with half the fuel economy of the Focus it's costing me...

Titsy

Spoke to the plod who was investigating this morning. The other party didn't deny being involved, but spun a tail of bullshit about what actually happened. Because there are no independent witnesses they can't prosecute as it is my word against his. The officer did say that from the witness statement and circumstances surrounding how it was reported it was clear to him that the other guy was telling porky's, but it's all about what can be proved...

My insurance company has already stated that they may have to call it 50/50 through lack of evidence... All in all I'm going to be down about £700 when you tot up my excess and increased premium over the next couple of years.

Words can't describe how pissed off I am that someone can get away with lying like that... No F***ing justice...
