Thats a '67 Split Screen Single Cab Pick-up (and it's for sale ) ) Basically a Splitty but a pick-up version. They did a double-cab version too which is uber rare..

brakes! You don't use brakes on snow and ice, unless you're doing a Scandinavian flick! I've got ABS on mine but only because it was one of the last mk2, even has rear disc brakes which ain't bad for an LX.

that should fetch a pretty penny. Amazed how much a split screen goes for over the single screen one.

Spent xmas up in North Wales so popped out on xmas day to grab a photo of the Jeep in the mountains of Snowdonia.  Wasn't too much snow left by that point but some of the roads were very icy.

Andy

Just more and more rain here! Starting to get a little fed up of it

EDIT
Just noticed - 801st post, posted from my new Macbook Pro

Andy

Sorry to double post, but that Jeep looks so cool! (no pun intended)

Do those big tyres offer more grip on ice than regulars or about the same?

Top man!

Given that the Jeep is RWD in normal use the back end doesn't seem as bad as it could be in slippery conditions although you still have to be careful.  On that section in the pic I had it in 4wd though as it was all ice and it coped perfectly fine.
I did read that those tyres aren't all that in snow/ice but I don't know if that means they're better or worse than normal road tyres (given that they're c**p anyway).

Whether it's actually good or not, I do feel more confident in it on ice than I did the Caddy, even though that was front wheel drive and coped ok.

Thankfully the Jeep doesn't have ABS as that blows on ice.

Fieldy

Great pic Andy, looks lovely. Did that plate come with it?

I can't turn my ABS off, at the worst of the ice in Kent it made it hard work having the ABS

HardRockCamaro

Might be a fuse you can pull out?

Andy

I don't understand why ABS is bad on ice, can someone explain? Always been told just never brake lol, engine brake and all that stuff. Would appreciate the education on driving on ice though.

HardRockCamaro

The problem is that the ABS works by using wheel speed sensors to detect the wheels locking up.  If it detects a wheel locking up it release the brakes ever so briefly and then reapplies them.  It does this over and over until you stop or take your foot off the pedal.

On snow, gravel and ice the car will stop quicker if you lock the wheels up as the tyres "dig in".  ABS won't let this happen.

They did some tests in the USA I think it was and found that a car equipped with ABS took about 20 or 25% longer to stop than with ABS switched off.

Granted ABS systems have improved but in my experience you're best off without it in snow etc.

Looks a minter compared to my battered barge! At least the bumpers are the same colour as the body!
