Commuting - how long for you?

Just started a new job and the commute I have got down to 1.15 hours which to me is unacceptable I have a few more routes and options to try but still going from a 5 minute commute to over an hour is a big difference.. I'm getting up uber early and I'm tired all day. Get home in the evening and don't have much chance to do anything before you need to get in bed for the next lot of commuiting..........................

I don't mean to whine, looking to compare journey times........

As i said yesterday mate, mine is about an hours drive (in good traffic...can be up to 1 1/2 hrs), then a good 10 mins cycle ride...

On a good day.....

walk to the station: 20 min
train to Harrow & Wealdstone: 40 min
train to Stonebridge Park: 15 min

Thats only if the trains connect.  Which usually they don't.  

Some days takes up to 2 hours.

Mine used to take up to 4 hours depending where my site was . . . or 8 hours if you include when I worked in Guernsey and got delayed.

Now it's about 15 minutes.

Cycle 15mins ish but can be slower or quicker depending on wind direction (seriously)  Cycle home is about 10-12mins because its more downhill (my record is 6.5mins but I was DEAD when I got home)

Car would actually take longer, about 20mins due to parking / walking to the building time

I did use to commute to uni which took about 1 to 2 hours depending on M1 traffic.  Was bad to begin with, but you soon get use to it.

When I first started only commuting 15 mins, I didn't like the fact I didn't have time to listen to the radio/music and I had no wind up/down before/after uni.

If I leave 5 mins late then it can take 30 - 35 mins because of school run traffic.

Pretty much exactly the same here. Luckily they must have re-routed one of the buses because it used to cause masses of tailbacks if you were about 5 mins late.

two days a week consultancy takes 4 minutes door to office

rest of the week I join Motorama by just walking for 10 seconds to get downstairs to the office! - oh, sometimes it takes a little longer if i stop by the 'cafe' to get a coffee.

An hour commute? I'd rather burn my nads off with a plasma cutter than ever do that again unless I was getting mega money

Allow 10 mins drive to Wolverton station. Anywhere from 45 to 55 mins to Euston on the train. Leisurely 15 min walk to work. In the morning usually 1 hr 20 mins total, a bit longer getting home due to waiting for a train at Euston.

Been doing the train trip from Wolverton since 1998. It is a bit of a drag these days but the service is far better/reliable than it used to be (most of the time!). Still beats my old commute from Acton when I lived in London by bus and tube...!

i commute 16 miles each way by car usaully takes 20 mins, no traffic cause i start early, way to early.
once when i used to work nights i came back from work at 3 am and it took me erm lets just say under 7 minutes on my cbr 1000

Good point dude.. I had visions of Flip sitting there in first class with a glass of fine Irun Bru, relaxed, legs extended onto leg-rest, free wireless in every carrage with enough room for a steering wheel and peddles to play Gran Turizmo.. I had forgotten about other people being on the train too, especially rush hour

In the morning, either car or bike is about 40 mins, in the evening the car takes 1.5 hours, the bile is 45 mins.

I really like my commute, and I'll miss it when I change jobs, it gives me time to ease into my day, and unwind afterwards.  I once worked a 5 min walk from home, and I absolutely HATED it.

If I had a job with a 1+ hour commute that payed serious money, I'd be one happy camper.
