The iPad

Revealed today in a swanky presentation, the iPad is everything between your iPhone (or Touch) and your Mac (PC)

The pic reminds me of the huge 80's mobile phones/bricks.

Seems pretty slick, but for me, it doesn't do the things I need of my laptop, and the minor tasks like Facebook and Twitter are fine on my iPhone, which is always with me and nice and compact.

As per netbooks, if your needs are limited it seems like it would be a fastest way to get your online "life" dealt with.  But whatever it costs, I can't justify it as it would be in addition to my laptop and my iPhone.

Nice though...

Interested to see how this changes the market and how it will fit in when people find uses for it..

Looks typical high-quality Apple though

I just dont get what its for.. too big to be a phone, too small to be a computer...

newer isn't always better... (just ask Chevrolet!)

100% with to be honest.

I get the iPhone, a great smart phone, fantastic user interface and a handy size.

Macbook, until recently seemed a little pricey, but now I own one probably the best purchase I've made in a long time.

I can't see the middle ground. It's like a laptop, but without any protection for the screen when you move it. Too big to be easily carried while on the move and on, and not exactly ideal for being sat down with in a car. Its just odd.

But I suppose, coming from the company that sparked the iPod generation you have to give them credit for new innovations.

Yes, apart from the Magic Mouse!!! Using one at work and it is too buggy and twitchy to use day-in and out for designing Also, more importantly - it has no expand all windows 'squeeze' function - you can download a script that will customise every touch of the mouse, but really it is a step forward in technology but back in userability.

The touch pad on this is absolutely amazing. It's actually frustrating using a touch pad on anything else now. So used to using it, when you go to a PC and find you can't do two finger scrolling, or swiping to go backwards and forwards between windows.. there are apparently buttons on the screen to press, or something!

I don't think I can do that on my Macbook?

Touch pads om PC's are horrible in comparison, and it's not just the gestures, for me it's the smooth acceleration/deceleration of the pointer and the accuracy as well as the feel under your finger.

As for Apple mice, I don't rate them at all, I love my Logitech MX Revolution.  Flippin pricey but works well...

A lot of people find Apple products expensive until they use them for a while, then they try out PC's in a store and see just how nasty they are.  It's probably like having a Rolls Royce then having say a Lexus.  The difference is more noticeable when you go down as opposed to up.

The tablet looks fine to me if you have the money for it *in addition* to your iPhone and Macbook.  OR, if you have a desktop Mac and want something to use to browse the net and whatnot while on the sofa or on the train.  Certainly a much better buy than those nasty netbooks with their miniscule keyboards.

I don't have a use for an iPad, although I can see uses for it for other people.

As with the iPhone/iPod Touch I can see it being of great use in hospitals in the US, where the iPod Touch is already doing well with specialist medical apps and accessories.

It would also be handy for anyone who walks around with a laptop balanced on one hand, like some warehouse staff etc.

About half way down, little video to look at.

The comparison between Rolls Royce and Lexus is quite fair. I had up until the 30th December a Sony Viao, thought it was the balls, apart from the battery life. Ran Vista Premium (never had a problem with it). I tried using it a couple of days ago and found it slow, clunky and really quite tacky. I couldn't believe how used to this I'd become and how much I didn't like what I had been using.

I reckon that the ultimate next thing for the iPhone/Touch would be the ability to create your own input devices via the plug on the bottom. Say hypothetically, test leads, making the device a complete test facility. Whether this is remotely possible I don't know.

Something that is quite similar are those diagnostic comps mechanics and the like use, though I think they're built like brick out houses.

I don't have the new 'Pro'....

Maybe that is why

You can't make them yourself really, but there are such things including a blood/glucose tester that links to the a special app that uploads your daily test results to your doctor (in the US).

Sold it to me, I only use my mac book for web browsing and Spotify.... Maybe this could be a good, cheap-ish upgrade as my macbook is old now

Andy

That does look slick!

Price actually sounds pretty reasonable too. Is that a sign that they're aware launching a new product in financially hard times isn't always the best start.

Sorry dude, new to all this 'mac' stuff.
