The figures for how many units sold are also pretty damn impressive...

I read that last year 1 in 3 $$ spent on a laptop was spent with Apple...

I don't think I can do that on my Macbook?

Try installing this dude http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=195\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=195 - gives you almost unlimited gestures to use with the Magic Mouse and Touch Pad, totally configurable to what you want. *SHOULD* work with a MB and not just the MBP - don't see why not.

Expose all windows with swipe down is just law.

Sold it to me, I only use my mac book for web browsing and Spotify.... Maybe this could be a good, cheap-ish upgrade as my macbook is old now

See now, I was thinking about where to position the product in the market last night in the shower instead of w@nking and I figured this is EXACTLY where Apple planned to place the iPad. Like Google with the up-comming Chrome OS - Apple have realised the opportunity in the fact that not everyone needs an uber powerful rig with every program on, instead, most of the market just use their computer for checking emails, FB, youtube and general net browsing. I couldn't think of a better, lower hassle product to do just that than the iPad (and fairly well priced considering Apple design and build quality).

My Uncle for example, never used a computer, but has a want to get onto the net for very occational browsing. Put the user-friendly controls and application libary of the iTouch together with a bigger iPhone and you get the iPad.

Pretty brilliant really when you think about it - this IS innovation of the product - don't compare this thing to a lappy or rig, this is a totally different device for people with different asperations and needs of a communication device.

So, although I couldn't see where to place this initially, I think this was because I hadn't thought of the target audience which is a new target audicence.

In short - people have been using computers and the net to communicate and find new uses for the devices, but that was becuase they were the only way to access information and the net. Along comes internet enabled phones which then segments the computer using audience into two, one with the requirment for a rig to run all programs and the other who just need an occasional access point for browsing and using information rather than inputting new information.

Awesome....

I am very tempted for a cheap upgrade just for a web browser around the house....

Heard on the news it's forcasted to cost around £500 over here, but more if you opt for the 3G enabled one.

To make this the best though they shouldn't allow it to be clung to one provider. They should flog this off their own back and allow Internet tethering via any phone.

I was sold a bit of a lie by the salesman when buying my MB, I asked if it was simple to use my phone for tethering to which he said it's very easy. Didn't realise O2 will only allow it if you by a tethering bolt-on. Apparently it's possible on a jail broke phone.

Either way I think you're spot on CP. My old lady (not the most technology savy) really digged my phone but her eyesight isn't spot on for using it without having to use the three figure zoom gesture. Apart from it not being a phone it could be the solution to her aging XP machine in a few months.

I haven't looked at the demo yet but does it do away with the dock?

whats wrong with young people

"instead of w@nking" theres very little that should interfere with that business certainly not letronic geek fodder

I think they're wrong on that.

It costs $499 for the base model which I suspect means £349 or less here as Apple use a 1.7x multiplier, sometimes less, for their conversions.

With 3G they add $130 (probably £90) and it is unlocked for that (so not subsidised).
If O2 or someone subsidise it the price could drop a bit...

Expected from the BBC

wonder what that'll do for the price of iPhones as that's gatecrashing their price range.

Incursus

Bit pricy you could get a proper laptop for that
£200 tops imho

Seriously for £400-500?

Incursus

Take your word for it. I get free one every 3 years so haven't bought one for nearly 10 years.
I thought our dell's were around the £300 + VAT mark

Just old and out of touch I guess

The Dell I had was reliable, and the service was ace from Dell, but I forget how much I paid, also, it weighed a tonne and the battery life was 0 after just over 1 year.

Incursus

Yeah my battery died all of a sudden, after about 2 years. Fortunately just got a new one through work

Should be getting a new craptop in the next few weeks

HardRockCamaro

I had a DELL, probably about 8 years ago now...

The battery life was ****, 2 hours max when new, the casing all cracked and fell apart within 18 months and it went wrong twice.

Bought an iBook instead.
