i went out over the week end to see a couple of projects

my bros ZX280

hes rebuilt a lot of sections inc the lip on the scuttle below the wind screen ,theres hours of welding, cutting ,bending, and  joggling to make this bit

a panel on top of the wing near the A post

not too shabby considering 3 months ago he had never welded anything

we then went to visit a guy from the northants car meet, who lives in the same village and is building a car from this

a tornado jet fuel drop tank.....

its a heavy ali tank,
that cost the raf[well us taxpayers] £50k ...available on ebay for around £300

front end, with drivers cockpit, and engine bay for the jaguar straight 6 engine,
the piece in the back ground is a 5ft section that was removed fron the centre of the tank

nose cone sitting on some wheels....they will protrude out from the body when done

the rear with the engine bay and a mock up of where the wheel will go

this thing is a work of art and will be an awesome car when finished,

LOL what project is this for - bbq / car ???

Roadkill

A car would be cool but doesn't interest me enough to do it myself . . .

A BBQ in the back garden would be Fooking Fierce but I reckon it's about 17' long so getting it there could be interesting . . .

I was actually considering it for a new MKB BBQ . . . . as I said, many moons ago, that'd it'd be cool to base it on a bomb.

You imagine how much attention that fekker would get !!!

art b

as far as i know, there around 22 feet long...

20 foot, apparently.

And only 100kg - does that sound rightto you, Art ?

could well be, as there made of around 9mm thick ali,or an alloy, they are ver well made with strengthening rings inside and some very nice welding

the company that sell them,
buy them for the very expensive fuel transfer pumping system installed inside, then sell the shell on

9mm thick ally . . . 20 foot long ?

Only 100kg ?

Still sounds light . . . I'd expect more like 200-250kgs but either way it's not terrible.

Art - the guy you know with one - did he cut out that 5 foot section then re-weld it or is it a bolted connection ??

Am still in discussions by the way . . . .

its not welded......yet,
but i would imagine it could end up bolted, using the reinforcing rings
