Big insurance rant

Why is that you have been with one insurance company for god knows how many years and each year the policy just keep renewing itself (apart from ringing them once a year to take off the breakdown cover they automatically add on at renewal) only to receive out of the blue a phone call to say "can I have your membership number of the recognised club you belong to".    Err we don't actually belong to a recognised club except the one we run (being going since 1987 but took over 18 months ago) so therefore number "1".  Sorry but that club isn't recognised – so you either have to join a recognised club or we will have to re-calculate your policy and this will probably come in at double the current policy price!!!!!! WTF?????  Not once in 17 years of American Car ownership have they asked this question – why now??

It's not a daily - we've been on the same policy since owning the Trans-Am (7 years now!).  Its on a 5000 mile a year policy, no additional drivers, garaged alarmed/imobilised etc etc.  Paid exactly the same amount each year now since owning the car!

Had a similar issue with my renewal coming through at £707 when it was £423 last year. Phoned them up and the guy was really helpful, he said straight away it must be a mistake. Asked if I was a member of any club, and I said "Yes, Milton Keynes Amecican Car Club" that's all he required from me and phoned me back 10 minutes later with a quote of £385 for the same policy as last year.

I've never really had any problems with MCE, they've always been helpful. Although i've never had to claim...

never use MCE for non dailys and if its not an every dayer theres time to shop ?

if ya need a number, hover over the lil envelope icon and in the URL that appears at the bottom of ie, the last part will then tell you your mkb registration number...
